Chapter Eighty Eight

I wrapped my arm around Pru’s neck as she and Alaric helped me stand up. My legs felt like noddles and lead at the same time.

“You okay?” Alaric asked with concern in his eyes.

“Yeah, I’m good.” I offered a smile. I didn’t know if I was, though. I had never experienced a time in my life where I didn’t have Delilah’s strength to rely on. I would never take her for granted again...that is if I ever got out of here.

“Once we are in the corridor, you have to act almost like a zombie.” Pru wrapped her arm around my waist to steady me. “Don’t make eye contact with anyone. Ignore anyone who speaks to you. It’s best that way.”

“Okay.” I grimaced as I tested the strength of my legs. One small step after another, we slowly made our way to the door.

“Ready?” Alaric asked.

“Yeah, I wanna see Matt.” I nodded. Alaric rolled his shoulders back and threw his head side to side, cracking it.
