Chapter Eighty Four

Rose

I was adrift in a sea of turbulent inky waves threatening to take me under, with no rescue in sight. My body felt as if it was sinking deeper into the depths with a current sending me into violent obscurity. Tendrils of darkness clung to my body, determined to latch on and smother the life out of me. I tried to pry open my eyes to escape the desolate environment, but my eyelids felt as if they were almost glued shut.

My body shook and vibrated by an outside force. A low humming noise followed by squeaks vibrated around me. Each note a rusty nail being hammered into my temple. What were those awful noises? Where was I? What was going on? The last thing I remembered was being in Matt’s room with Hodges. Hodges? What did he do to me?

My breathing was labored and painful. Every inhale and exhale was met with the sensation of thousands of needles piercing my lungs. The air smelled and tasted rancid, like I was breathing in old moldy wet cigarettes.
