Chapter Eighty Five

Brigid and Dr. Thompson were both examining the needle as I left the cabin. Alastor, Harriet, and I lingered over their shoulders for longer than we should have. Damian had already ushered Iris back home before anyone could even suggest it. No one wanted to force her to be a part of this. She had already gone through so much. There was nothing I could do to help figure out what had tainted my mate; I would only be in the way. Eventually, I had to begrudgingly leave it in their more than capable hands.

Alastor and Harriet walked a few feet behind me as we made our way back to the packhouse. The rain had slowed to a light sprinkle. I walked in solitude, ignoring the low murmurs of the conversation that was going on behind me. I could have eavesdropped if I wanted to, but it wasn’t worth it right now.
