Chapter Twenty-Nine: Paige

I woke up to a burning in my chest. My body knows that Colin is furious. It’s interesting to me how deep I can feel his emotions, especially since we aren’t marked yet. I pull myself from the bed and go to find him. When I leave our room, I know something is wrong. The packhouse is silent despite being full of wolves, and the ones I can see are staring into the hallway that leads to Colin’s office.

Before I can even step foot onto the stairs, Charles emerges from the hallway. He is steaming with anger. I offer him a slight smile as he leaves, but he just stares at me and slams the door. Colin stomps out of the hallway. His face is unreadable. He doesn’t look like himself. Worry pounds against my chest. Colin’s stoic face softens slightly when he sees me. He takes the stairs two at a time and wraps me in his arms. His face is buried in my hair, breathing in my scent to calm himself. I wrap my legs around his waist, and he carries us back to our bed. The burning in my chest has cooled
