Chapter 2:

When I walk in the doors of the school, I get slammed into by my best friend Louise. She wraps her arms around me into a big hug. When she lets go of me, she stands back and smiles before greeting me.

“Good morning, Liz! Can you believe it! We are seniors and this is our last year!” She squeals.

“Good morning to you too, Louise.” I said with a half-smile. She gives me a knowing look. Even though we live in the human parts of town there are still a few werewolves who have opted out of going to the pack school and go here to my school. She is one of them. She is the only werewolf friend I have and I am thankful for it.

“I guess your mom told you about having to live at the pack house?” She asked slyly. I nodded.

“Don’t feel bad. I have to do the same but I will still be going here. Is that what you are going to do also?”

Again, I nodded at her. She squeals again and hugs me. “Yay! I won’t have to go here without you and maybe we can ride together from the pack house! Oh my, this is going to be so much fun!” I just nod again and try to smile.

                                                       “What’s wrong Liz?”

I shrug my shoulders and look at her. “I don’t know. I guess I was hoping I wouldn’t have to do it but mom is calling Alpha James this morning and get the info from him of when I need to be there.”

“Oh, Ok. Well, they gave me a week before I have to move in. Hey, maybe we will be roommates! How cool would that be? Just you and me taking on the world!” She said giddy and jumping around me in a circle.

I laughed at her and said, “Yeah that would be fun, I guess. Come on though, we need to go to the office and get our schedule before we’re late.”

We get to the office and ask for our schedules. We have three classes together in the middle of the day but my first class is P.E. I don’t like having it for the first hour because you get all nasty and grimy from sweat but this morning, I’m looking forward to it. I need an outlet for my discomfort and time to think of the changes I’m going to be making.

I make my way to the locker room and change. As I’m walking out the door into the gym, I walk into the wall. Well apparently, the wall has arms because as I was falling a pair of strong arms gripped my upper arm to steady me.

“I am so sorry…” I start to say as I look up to the guy who held my arm. “I- I- I…. wasn’t watching where I was going.”

“It’s ok. I’ve done it a few times myself. Even fell down a flight of stairs once. I will admit, it was not my most graceful moment.” He said chuckling and letting go of my arm. “Are you ok?”

“Yes. Thank you for not letting me fall. I’ll be going to class now.” I said as I rushed around him. I don’t know why I was being awkward. I’ve never been like that before with anyone. But seeing this over 6-foot-tall guy with light brown hair and gorgeous chocolate eyes he made my heart flutter. I don’t know if I have seen him before. Maybe he is new.

Shaking my head as I get to the punching bag. I put my headphones in and wrap my hand in the bandages so I don’t hurt my knuckles. Once I was done, I started out with slow punches so I didn’t over exert myself. With all this thinking about my dad and the move I was getting really agitated. My punches were getting harder and faster and before I knew it, I was throwing in kicks too. Oblivious to everyone else around me I just let it all go. This is not how I wanted to start my day or my senior year but there was nothing that could be done about it. Once the hour was up, I went back to the locker room, took a shower and got dressed to head to my next class.

Now that the anger was mostly out my system, I realized I shouldn’t have gone so far. My arms are like spaghetti, I could feel them but they are going limp and it’s hard to hold my bag. I laugh at myself. I should of know, it happens every time but it was well needed. I got to my seat and sat down. A few moments later the guy from the gym walked in. He was wearing a black t-shirt that showed is muscled torso and arms and pair of black gym shorts. He has a beautiful golden tan that goes perfectly with his light brown hair that was messy and still wet from the shower. He must have seen me looking because he looked at me gave me a huge smile. He walked over and sat at the desk next to me.

“Hey! How are you?” He asked me while taking his books out of his bag.

“Hey.” I said shyly. “I really am sorry for running into you earlier. My mind is a bit jumbled this morning.” A slight breeze came from the opened window and I stiffened. I took a small intake of breath and realized. He was a werewolf too. Oh great. Most of them leave me alone besides Louise. She’s the only one who has ever came up to me.

He waved his hand at me, “It’s no big deal. I promise. By the way my name is Robbie. I transferred here this year.” He said to me as he held out his hand.

I took his hand and shook it, “Hi Robbie I am Liz. It’s nice to meet you. Hopefully you like it here. Most of the people are not too terrible.” I said chuckling.

He gave me another dazzling smile and leaned in a bit closer. “I don’t mean to be rude of asking this but I get the feeling we are close. I mean with the connection of furry friends.” Being shocked he just blurted it out there even if no one else could hear, I turned to him, smiled and nodded as the teacher walked in.

The hour went by semi slow. When the bell rang Robbie looked at me and asked what class I had next. I told him it was chemistry. He said he had the same class, so we walked together. As I took my seat at the table he sat down on my left. Then walks in Louise. I was glad we have this class together.

“Liz! How was your last two classes?” Louise asked as she put her bag down and sat in her chair.

“They were pretty good. But it is only the first day.” I said with a chuckle.

“Don’t let her fool you. In gym class I thought the punching bag was going to break.” Said Robbie as he slightly leaned over the table to look at Louise.

Louise looks at him with a deer in the headlight look. I couldn’t tell if she was shocked by how handsome he was or shocked that a guy was sitting at our lab table. She shook her head and laughed. “Yeah. She does that sometimes when she needs to vent or do a lot of thinking. Hi, I’m Louise.” She said with her hand stretched out.

“Hi, I’m Robbie. I’m new here.” He said as he shook her hand.

“Well, it’s nice to see new faces around. I hope you like it here. Are you a senior also?” Louise asked curiously.

“Yeah. I use to go to the pack school but I wanted to see the differences in schools this year. So, I talked my dad into letting me come.”

“That’s pretty cool. I’m glad your dad let you come. Just watch out for some people in this school. Mainly the girls. They try to get themselves the best-looking guys. Last year one of the head cheerleaders got with a foot player and somehow got him kicked off the team. No one is sure what happened. He was even a shoe in for a scholarship for an Ivy League college until whatever happened, happened.” Said Louise with a shrug of her shoulder.

“Hmm. Well, that is interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I’ll make sure to keep clear of people like that.”

They both stop talking as the teacher starts their lecture.

By the end of the school day, I am so tired and ready to go home. The last bell rings and I’m racing to my locker to put stuff up and walk home. I grab my math book and put it in my bag. I shut my locker and walk towards the school doors to go home. As I turn the corner to head the three blocks home when a white car pulls up next me. The window is rolling down and I see Robbie.

“Hey Liz. Want a ride home?”

“Na, I’m not far from home. Thanks though.”

“I promise I don’t mind.” Robbie said giving me a cute smile.

“I really am ok. Maybe I’ll take you up on your offer some other time.” I said as I admire his beautiful brown orbs.

“Alright. I’ll see you tomorrow hon. Be safe going home.”

“Thank you. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

I make my way home and as I open the door I’m greeted by my mom.

“How was your first day sweetheart?” Mom asked as she walks out of the kitchen to give me hug.

“It was good. I have a new classmate. He seems nice. He also transferred from the pack school.” I said to mom letting her go and shrugging my bag off my shoulder.

“Oh, that’s wonderful honey. What’s his name? I might know his parents.”

“His name is Robbie. I don’t know his last name. I never thought to ask him.”

As I said his name mom gasped and gave me a wary look.

                                                      “What’s wrong mom?”

“Nothing. I do know his parents. They are great people. They were there to help me when everything happened with your father.” She said with a smile.

“So, I can trust him?” I asked.

“Yes, very much so. I also talked to Alpha James and he said they will have a room ready for you Saturday afternoon at the pack house.”

“Ok. Thanks mom. I love you. I’m going to head up stair and start on my homework.”

“Go on. I’ll call you when I have dinner done.” Mom said as she walked back to the kitchen.

I run up the stairs two at a time going to my room. When I get in a pull my book out and plop it on my desk. I open it to the page I need and think ‘why do they give us homework on the first day?’ Ugh. I always wondered why they couldn’t wait until the first week was over before homework started. But I guess they just don’t want us slacking. As I’m finishing up my last problem, I hear my phone ping. I pull it out and look at it.

Louise: Hey girly! What did your mom find out?

Me: I get to move in sometime Saturday afternoon. That’s all I know.

Louise: That’s awesome!! Me 2! Seriously be cool if we were roomies.

Me: I would heart that so much. At least I would be with some1 I know and liked. LOL.

Louise: Yesssss!!! My thoughts exactly. 2 p’s in a pod you & me.

“Liz dinner is done. Come on down.” Mom yelled up the stairs.

Me: GTG dinner is ready. I’ll see ya tomorrow.

I put my phone back down and head to the kitchen. I take a sniff to see what she cooked for dinner. I don’t think I’ve ever smelled it before but it smells delicious. My mouth is watering so much.

“Hey mom. What’s for dinner? It smells so good.”

“I decided to do something different.” She chuckled. “I’m not sure how good it’s going to be but it does smell good. I made broiled salmon, potatoes, asparagus, side salad and honey bread.”

It looks so good. Yummy! I grab a plate and started piling the food on. If someone other than mom and Louise seen me eat, they would think I was either pregnant or a guy. Mom always wonders how I can eat so much and stay so fit. I tell her it’s because of all the training I do it burns it all off.

“So, Liz do you want to know anything about living in the pack house before you actually go?” asked mom around bites of food.

“I was wondering, do they let people share rooms and have roommates or do we get them by ourselves?”

“Well, I think it depends. Some of the lower-class students do share rooms on the lower floors. And unless they have changed it, I believe the Juniors and Seniors can have their own rooms or decide if they want to bunk with a friend.”

I gave a small smile knowing that fact. I would be happy if I could share a room with Louise but I don’t know if I could handle her every day and her energetic ways. I love mornings but not as much as she does. I laughed at myself out loud.

“What’s up buttercup? I know that look your thinking and it’s making me nervous.” Mom said with a small chuckle.

“I was just thinking of Louise. She is moving in there Saturday too. So, I was laughing at myself saying I would love to room with her but she was way to energetic in the mornings for own sanity.”

“Ah, ok, I completely understand. Hopefully she will be in a room close to you. That way if you feel lonely, she will be close by. Don’t forget though that on the weekends you can always come visit me. They have training until 10 A.M. on Saturdays but your day of rest and catch-up is on Sundays.”

“Ok mom. I will definitely have to do that. You know I will miss you way too much to not want to come see you.” I said looking at her with a loving smile.

She smiled at me and took her last bite of food.

“Well sweetheart I’m going to go back to bed before work. I have to be there at 10 tonight.”

“I love you mom. I hope you get some good rest. I will see you tomorrow.” I said giving her hug and then head back to my room.

I lay on my bed wondering what it’s going to be like living at the pack house. Maybe I can ask Robbie tomorrow if he lives there and see if I can’t ask him some questions. With that thought I roll over, turn off my light and go to sleep.
