LEILANI'S POV:
I nervously walk inside Mr. Black's office, closing the door behind me. I walk over to his desk. He was sitting down behind the huge mahogany desk, wearing a spectacle, his eyes fixed on the laptop before him.
"Good morning, Sir." I greeted. He nodded and motioned for me to come to his side. I bite on my lower lip nervously and walk behind the desk to his side.
He pointed at the screen of his laptop, I bent my back, my hand on the desk and my eyes fixed on the screen reading what was written there.
"Sir, it is an invitation letter." I said and cursed myself inwardly. I was sure that I got the mail first but since I haven't log in yet he saw it before me.
I knew that I was in trouble, at least I was sure about it.
"I didn't see it, Sir. I'm sorry." I apologized, my eyes fixed on the ground beneath me.
"Get yourself ready, Miss Carter, you'll escort me to the party as my secretary." He ordered and I nodded my head. There was no room for 'i have to think about it'.
It wasn't my first time accompanying him to a party or business trip, as his secretary it was part of my job.
"Okay, Mr. Black." I said and retreated back to the front of the desk. "If there's nothing else I have to go and make your coffee now."
He was quiet so I took that as a queue to leave. I turned on my heels and walked out of the office. I made my way to the next door and brought out a cup from the cupboard.
I walked towards the coffeemaker and placed my hand on it. I shivered lightly and closed my eyes for a brief moment. I exhaled loudly and placed the back of my hand against my forehead.
Shit!, I felt sick!
But I got to do this.
After making the coffee I returned to his office and dropped the coffee in front of him.
Arrogant! He couldn't even mumble a 'thank you' to me. But I've gotten used to his cold attitude. It was nothing new to me.
"Miss Carter?" He called and I raised my eyes to meet his. His gray eyes boring into mine.
"Too sweet." He said and I raised my eyebrow in confusion. "You've been making this for five years, I'll take this as an accident."
He dropped the coffee without touching it again.
I quickly sputter out an apology "I am sorry Sir, I don't know….I'm sorry Mr Black."
I was totally confused with myself. I have offended him twice this morning. The third time won't be forgiven and that was how Dylan Black did his own thing.
First mistake, might be forgiven.
Second mistake, if you're lucky enough.
And third mistake, lose your job and never get employed ever again.
You don't want to cross paths with an angry Dylan Black.
I hurried out of the office, when I got to my desk I sat down on my chair dejectedly.
I didn't know what was wrong with me. I guess I had been thinking a lot about my one sided feelings that I forgot all my responsibilities as a secretary.
Shit, I knew I was screwed.
I picked up my telephone and dialed the office number of Dylan Black.
"Sir, meeting with King's Enterprise is in fifteen minutes." I said into the telephone.
It was silent on the other end for a while before he cleared his throat. "Well, get ready Miss Carter."
I dropped the telephone and wore my ID card properly. My eyes scanned my dress for a brief moment before I stood up and grabbed my bag with the necessities that I would be needing at the meeting.
Mr. Black walked out of his office and headed straight towards the elevator.
We both entered the elevator and I quickly pressed the number to the first floor.
The elevator started moving while I kept watching Dylan discreetly.
He had always been a quiet man, I really didn't know if it was true or I was only trying to console myself but…
For the five years that I've worked for him he hasn't said more than five line sentences to me at once.
It has always been, Miss Carter does this, Miss Carter does that.
I wasn't complaining because I genuinely love him and wanted to help him in whatever way I could. Sometimes I wanted to give up.
There was a time I decided to quit, I knew what the repercussions will be but I still wanted to do it but Fina….I fucking shit I forgot to call her yet again.
I brought out my phone from my bag and quickly went through my message box. I clicked on her name and typed a one line message to her. "Happy birthday, bestie."
If only she knew that I might not be there again because I wasn't sure how long the party would take.
The elevator stopped and Dylan walked out with me trailing behind his back.
Immediately when we stepped outside his driver quickly pulled the owner's door of the car open. Dylan stepped in and looked at me for a moment. He climbed back inside the car while I climbed inside the passenger seat and rested my back against the rich leather seats.
"Where are we going, Boss." The driver questioned him slowly.
"King's Enterprise." He said slowly, I could barely make out what he said but it seemed like the driver heard him.
****
I wore a long black dress that had a split from my right thigh down to my toes. The hands were straps and the front was designed with gold.
It was beautiful!
I stepped out of my front porch to see a car already waiting for me. I knew he was in there, I was nervous and eager to see his reaction when he saw me.
"Miss Carter." His driver greeted. "Mr. Black is waiting for you inside the car."
I nodded my head and stepped inside the car. When I got inside the car he was reading some article on his phone but when he heard me he raised his head up to look at me.
"Miss Carter, you look beautiful." He said plainly. No emotions. It just sounded so plain.
"Thank you, Sir."
I looked out of the window when the car started moving, my eyes following every movement he made.
We got down from the car, he walked across to where I was standing and placed his hand at the small of my back. I took in a sharp breath, my heart racing frantically.
He led me inside the huge hall filled with people of high social status.
"Black, you're here already." Asher King, his friend said as they clap their shoulders together in a buddy buddy gesture.
Who would have thought that Dylan Black and Asher King were actually good friends, best of friends to be exact.
"When did you get here?" Dylan asked him. Asher grabbed a glass of wine from the waitress that was walking around and so did Dylan.
"About five minutes ago," he said and looked behind Dylan to glance at me. "You're looking so beautiful tonight, Miss Carter."
I blushed profusely and quickly scanned Dylan's expression before responding. "Thank you, Mr. King. You look good yourself."
Both of them started discussing business while I was looking around the place.
"Come, let's dance." Dylan said, his hand on my back helped me towards the dance floor. I wasn't a good dancer and my stiletto heels weren't helping at all.
My eyes were fixed on him throughout the dance. The way his jaw clenched and unclenched made me know that he was angry.
"Do you enjoy flirting with King?" He asked, before I could understand what he was saying. He released me from his hold and walked away from the dance floor.
"We are leaving."
I got inside the car and glanced behind me to look at Dylan. I didn't understand why he was mad all of a sudden. I did nothing to him.
The car ride was silent, the car stopped in front of my house and I got down from the car.
"Good night, Sir." I said before slamming the door shut. I walked towards my door and unlocked it with my key. I walked inside and closed the door behind me. My back against the door I heaved a sigh of relief.
My phone started ringing and I fished it out of my purse.
"Hi, Ma." I greeted.
"Leilani, how are you my dear?"
"I am fine Ma, how are you and Papa?" I asked while making my way upstairs to my room.
"We're doing great, it is your Papa's birthday in the next four days, will you come home?" She asked.
Oh shit! I forgot about the birthday.
"I'll try, Ma. I will let you know if I'm going to make it." I told her. "Good night."
I hung up the phone and threw myself on my bed.
Fuck, I felt like shit. My body was itching me.
How the hell am I going to make it to Indianapolis in four days.
A man named Dylan fucking Black is gonna be the end of me.
I was the last child of my parents, we were four in number, my big brother died two years ago of Leukemia blood cancer and now we have only three left.
Ma was yet to get over the death of Xander so I was trying to do whatever I can to make her happy.
Since I became Dylan's secretary I've never for once taken a day off work and neither had he given me a day off too.
My days off were always weekends.
Can he cope without me just for a few days?
I grabbed my phone from my drawer and scrolled through my contacts. I found Serafina's name at the top and clicked on it.
It rang twice before she answered it.
"I'm sorry girl, happy birthday." I said immediately.
She groaned loudly and kept quiet. "You owe me big-time, Leilani."
"I'm so sorry, Dylan and I went to a party together and I just came back a few minutes ago." I said and looked down at my feet. I sighed and sat down on the bed, with the phone still against my ear, trapped between my shoulders. I was able to unhook my stiletto heels and slipped my feet out of it.
"I don't want to hear your version of how cute Dylan Black is right now." She groaned. I barked out a laugh and shook my head. She always told me that Dylan doesn't care about me. It hurts but she was right.
He doesn't care about me, doesn't want to know how I feel about things. He doesn't care if I was available to do something but he'll still tell me to do it.
But I was still holding to what my mother used to say when we were growing up.
Different souls always make the perfect match.
I know that he is cold, ruthless, arrogant even. But I still want him either way.
"What? It's not like anything happened." I said with a roll of my eyes. "Now tell me how your party went."
I stayed up on the phone with Serafina until I was tired and bid her goodnight.
I stripped out of my dress and went inside my bathroom. I stepped under the shower and turned on the faucet, the cold water gracing my skin and goosebumps visible on my body. I was too lazy to use the warm water, the craziest part was that the weather was cold. It was early May and winter was already around so the nerves of me showering with cold water.
I stepped out of the shower and grabbed my towel, after wrapping the towel around my body I walked off to where my toothbrush was kept.
I picked my brush and squeezed in some toothpaste. I stood before the bathroom mirror, brushing my teeth and humming to Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift's I don't wanna live.
LEILANI'S POV:Throughout my day at work I was trying to find the perfect timing to go to Dylan but it seems like the perfect timing never get here.I was looking up every two minutes from my laptop to his door. I asked in my professional voice.

Tomorrow evening I'll be on the next plane back to New York. "Let's go, please." I told the cab driver. It has been long I last saw my mother, sobi was so excited for this journey. I grabbed my phone and dialed Kiara's number. 'Hey, how is it going?' i asked her. She giggled softly before responding. 'Mr Black is
LEILANI'S POV:I was sitting outside the balcony with Gregory, pressing my phone and texting Serafina. I'll be leaving for New York in four hours and the few hours I have left, I wanted to make something out of it.Zoey walked towards us with a board of cheese."Nah, that's Pápa's. You know how to play? I always kick Greg's ass Everytime we play." I told her. She chuckled and kissed Greg on the lips before sitting down on the empty chair beside him."Why don't we bet on that?" She asked. I became excited, I looked at Greg but he wasn't the least interested. It sounded fun, it has been a long time since I last did something fun.Zoey is a fun girl and that was why
Dylan's POV:The car pulled up in front of the company and Daniel my driver came to open the door for me.I got out if the car and walked towards the front door."Stay around, I might need you soon." I told him.I board my private elevator and not too long later, I was in my office floor. When my grandfather made me the CEO of our pipeline corporation, I wasn't so sure if myself. It was a responsibility I wasn't sure I was ready for, after managing it for four years I realized that it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be at the beginning, it became even more interesting after I employed Leilani Carter as my secretary; my highly capable secretary. She is smart but not so smart sometimes, especially when her feelings for me clouds her judgements. She is love sick with me, it didn't start today, it started years ago b
Dylan's POV:I sat down inside my home office thinking about the possible solution to my current dilemma.I know that grandfather was serious. He doesn't threaten anyone if he isn't going to do what he says.I knew that he would surely take away my hard earned inheritance from me if I refused to do the one simple thing he asked of me.I don't have a girlfriend, I don't deal with girlfriends. How am I going to get someone that will cooperate with me in this?My mind kept going around and around until I thought of Leilani Carter.Leilani Carter. She is beautiful and smart, she is the perfect woman that I can trust with this. With her love for me I'm sure she wouldn't mind being my wife for a few years.I grabbed my phone from my desk and dialed her number. It rings twice but she didn't pick it up so I sent her a message instead.Miss Carter,I'd like you to come to my house tonight. There is an importan
LEILANI'S POV:I waited to see his reactions to my words but he just nodded his head."Margret." He called, a young girl in her early twenties walked in, an apron wrapped around her body. Margret was madame Solange's child, after the woman's death, Margret took her mother's place as Dylan's cook."You called me, Sir?" She asked and Dylan hummed."Get dinner ready, I'll be having dinner with Leilani. " He said, she looked up at me and smiled shyly. I can't believe that he hasn't eaten dinner by now. He always have his dinner before 8pm every night. Could it be that he was working and forgot the time? After Margret as left, I focused my attention to Dylan."We will go through the dos and donts while eating," he told me and I nodded my head.He continued typing on his phone until after a while, Margret came back to announce that the dinner is set.Dylan and I walked inside the dining room and sat down on the chair. Spaghetti
LEILANI'S POV: When I got back from making Dylan's coffee, his lawyer was already inside his office. I sat there opposite Dylan, my hands on my lap as I watch Dylan and David Sinclair, his lawyer and the head of his legal team. "So Miss Carter, before we can discuss anything with you I'd like you to sign this paper. " David Sinclair said and pushed a paper and a pen towards me. I grabbed the file from the table and quickly red the heading. A NDA. No disclosure agreement. I grabbed the pen and put my signature on the file. "Very well then." He said and took the file then kept it in his briefcase. He brought out another file from his briefcase and handed it over to Dylan. Dylan went through the file quickly and nodded his head then handed it back to me. 'A one year marriage contract
LEILANI'S POV:I called Serafina almost immediately after Dylan sent me the dress that day. She was so excited for me.She have no idea that it will be a fake marriage, but who cares? I get to have Dylan smiling and holding my hand even if it's in public, I'm okay with that.It is Sunday night, he might that I'll be meeting Old man Black.I am nervous. Seriously, if you know how hot headed that man is you'd be nervous as well.I don't want to mess this up, I don't want to disappoint Dylan and I don't want Serafina who is busy doing my hair to notice my change of mood."Are you okay, babe?" Serafina ask, I nod my head and stare at myself on the mirror.I look so different, so elegant, classy like Dylan would like it.I smile and stand up from the chair that I was sitting on."I'll just go and drink some water, I'm thirsty." I tell her befo
