Chapter 4_ Substitute Secretary.

LEILANI'S POV:

Throughout my day at work I was trying to find the perfect timing to go to Dylan but it seems like the perfect timing never get here.

I was looking up every two minutes from my laptop to his door. He was yet to come out of his office since he came in. He was in a very bad mood earlier and going to him to ask for days off will piss him off beyond measures.

I had to thred carefully.

My telephone rang and I quickly brought it up to my ear.

"Secretary Carter of Black's corporation here, what can I do for you?" I asked in my professional voice.

"Hi secretary Carter, is Dylan still in his office? He wasn't answering his phone calls." The voice said. I stood up immediately when I recognized whom the voice belongs to.

"I'm sorry Mrs Black, forgive my manners." I said instantly. "Mr. Black is still inside his office."

From what I knew, Dylan is Mrs Black's most prized treasure in this world. Mr Black died almost immediately after he was born and he was the only son. The only treasure the BLACKS had.

His grandfather was a powerful business man who controlled billions of dollars in his prime, now most of that power has been given to Dylan.

"I can get him on the phone if you want." I said after sometime.

"That is so sweet of you, secretary Carter. But you don't have to bother him, maybe he is just busy." She said and cleared her throat. "Have a nice day, secretary Carter."

I dropped the telephone and looked back at the closed door of Dylan's office.

Shit! Now I have a reason to go inside.

I slipped on my stiletto heels and scurried off to the door. I knocked on the door and heard a hoarse voice ushering me in.

I pushed the door open and walked inside the office then closed the door behind me.

Dylan was sitting down on a couch at the center of his office, his iPad on his hand and his eyes fixed on that damn screen. Sometimes I wished he could look at me the way he ventures his time looking at that iPad.

Have I mentioned that he was a workaholic? I don't think he take some time to rest at all. If he wasn't working then it's possible he was in a meeting or traveling the world.

"Sir, your mother called." As soon as the word left my mouth, his gray eyes bored into mine.

"What did she say?" He asked me quietly, like I was distracting him.

"She said she has been calling your cell phone number but you weren't picking up." I told him. He nodded and fished out his phone from his pants pocket. He unlocked it and groaned. That was the sexiest sound I've ever heard.

Shit! I was drooling.

"Okay, take that file from my desk and give it to the project manager." He told me. I walked elegantly towards his desk and bent over to retrieve the file on the table. I walked back to him and stood beside him, contemplating if I should try my luck or not.

"Is there anything else you need to report to me, Miss Carter?" He asked not caring to look at me.

"Yes, Sir." I mumbled and brazed myself to tell him what I had in mind. "I was wondering if I could get a few days off work, Sir. My mother's birthday is tomorrow and she will be very happy to have me there with her."

I waited silently for his NO but none of that ever came.

"Okay." My heart skipped at the unexpected response. I was waiting for him to decline it. Then I was scared. What if he fires me.

"Sir, I…"

"You've worked with me for almost five years now Miss Carter, but if you don't come to work tomorrow then you're as good as fired." My heart chunned at his cruel words.

I thought he would at least respect the fact that it was going to be my mother's birthday.

Tears stungs my eyes as I tried to be professional enough and not let myself get weakened by his words.

"Okay, Sir." I turned around and walked towards the door. My hand on the knob I tried to pull it back when I heard his voice stopping me.

"Get someone to replace you for two days, you can go now."

My heart bursts with joy upon hearing his words. I want to believe that he had a soft spot for me. I really wanted to believe it.

"Right away, Sir." I said and quickly walked out of the office before he could change his mind. Maybe, just maybe he cared about family more than he was letting on.

Maybe there was really goodness behind that assertive, cold and ruthless demeanor he was always wearing.

I made my way towards the elevator and pressed the twelfth floor, the elevator starts moving while I pray myself away from peeping at the file.

When I stepped out of the elevator I found myself beside Kiara's cubicle. She was the only friend I have in the company.

"Hi Kiara." I greeted.

"Oh, hi Leilani. What brought you down here?" She asked me with a smile on her face.

"I desperately need your help." I told her and her eyes widened. She glanced around discreetly and brought her face closer to me.

"Are you in trouble?" She asked and I shook my head.

"I need you to fill in for me as Mr. Black's secretary for two days." I said. She stared at me as if I had lost it before she bursted into  laughter.

"You want me to fill in for you? And where are you going exactly?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.

" My Ma's birthday is tomorrow and I have to leave for Indianapolis first thing tomorrow morning. Don't worry, Mr Black already approved of this." I told her. She sighed and looked back at her phone.

"I don't know."
