"Thank you," Perseus muttered so quietly I almost missed it. The acknowledgment awakened a flutter of butterflies in my stomach, sending a smile to my lips before I could catch it.

I was an idiot, a fool, for believing I could hate the man before me. The emptiness in his eyes he had shown just moments ago was enough to shatter any wall I had built against him, against all the men who kept me a prisoner here.

Perseus was a monster, a cruel being that had taken pleasure in destroying my life, but one look in those dark blue eyes and I was brought back to the past.

I was thrown back to a time when I was no different—a time when I was a monster desperate to escape one world for another that had also forgotten me. A cruel nightmare created by hatred and desperation, willing to destroy anything in my path without fear of the consequences, the hunger for my own salvation drowning out all other senses.

I vowed to live a life of freedom, of love, and happiness.
