Chapter 13

Eric's POV

As I hugged Lola and the men excused us, I felt my guards go up again.

Lola was a snake. I did not dare forget that or underestimate her.

I fiance pulled away from the embrace and raised her head to face me.

Her face was stained with tears, and her her nose was red.

I wondered if the tears were real.

I lowered my face to hers, and I smiled inwardly as I saw the heat rise in her cheeks as she blushed.

Just when our lips were inches apart and she had closed her eyes in anticipation, I asked lowly:

"What is your real reason for coming here, Lola?"

I intentionally caused the heat in my voice to fan her face as she stared at me for a moment.

She then turned her eyes away from me, her fingers entwined as she remained silent.

I was hoping, for some reason, that she would tell me the truth and tell me that my mother had put her up to it. I hoped she would return to the Lola once loved who was beautiful inside out. I hoped that she would day the truth so I could actually envison m
