Emily's POV

"What do you mean?" I asked, feeling my heart pounding even in my ears.

She was sobbing at the other end of the line.

"I don't know. She was with me in the kitchen in the evening, telling me about her day when she complained of a pain shooting through her ankle, and she suddenly sl-slumped!"

I covered my mouth with my hands, feeling the intense pain and burden I had been carrying from the beginning of the day find expression in my tears.

"W-Where is she now?" I choked out, jerking to my feet and gathering my things without a second thought.
