Emily's POV

"Anna, you don't have to!"

She made a disapproving noise from the other end of the line.

"I got you into this. It is only right that I am there with you physically to give you the support you need."

I shook my head, sniffling slowly.

"You're already supporting me enough, Anna. You're looking after Mia for me when I can't be there. I can't thank you enough for that."

I heard her sigh at the other end of the line, and just as she was about to protest again, I continued.

"Besides, if you leave now to come over here, no one will be with Mia."

My voice broke at the end of my sentence. I would not forgive myself if anything worse happened to her.

"Emily, you should tell Eric about her. He just might be the perfect match we have been searching for far and wide."

My heart raced as she told me the bitter truth I needed to hear, but the scared part of me refrained from paying much attention to it.
