CH 43: My New Plan

Lizzy’s POV

“Jason, you trust me, right?”

“Of course I do. What happened? Do tell, I’m listening,” he replied.

We were stuck in traffic when we had just left Becky’s house area. Our car stopped behind a row of cars lined up, waiting for traffic to clear. Jason took my hand, stroked it, and waited patiently until I was ready to tell the story.

“Are you ready?” he asked for the umpteenth time.

“Yes,” I replied, wiping away the remaining tears. I took a breath and let it out slowly.

“Jason, your mom set me up and humiliated me in front of all her friends. I realized nothing when I accepted her invitation until some of her friends asked me to play the piano. Your mom supported their request even though she knew I didn’t come from a rich family, so how could I possibly play the piano if I never learned?” I answered while wiping away the remaining tears.

“So, what happened then?” he asked.

“Four steps before reaching the piano on Mrs. Becky’s back porch, I turned around and looked at them a
