Chapter Fifty-Two.

Her feet tapped nervously into the wooden portico and Isabella pounded her knuckles against the door. Her heart raced in her chest with tears that had already dried in her eyes.

It didn’t take long until the sound of a key clicked inside of the locks and the door drew open to Patricia. There was a chain that still hooks it to its hinges and when Pat saw her, an exasperated breath escaped her lips as she threatened to close it.

Isabella stepped forward, wedging her arm against it.

She pushed a lump down her throat and Patricia unhooked the door. “What are you doing here?” She asked, letting her hands slip into her back pocket as she threw her head over her shoulders.

“They got away” Isa scoffed, a smile creeping to her lips—perhaps to hide how she truly felt. Angry, was an understatement but hardly could Patricia tell. She furrowed her brows, a veneer that Isabella saw through and she took another step.
