Chapter 38
I was enjoying this strange sense of peace as Ellen and I walked back towards the guest floor where Victor surely would be, but, when we opened the hall doors to the stairwell we were both taken aback in surprise. There were people running around everywhere, sobbing, frantic faces dashing past us. I shared a worried look with Ellen, there was no way Victor had caused this mess.
“What’s going on?” Ellen asked a stranger grabbing her arm and yanking her to face us.
She was younger than both of us, her swollen eyes and red nose gave away her grief as I felt my heart stutter. Had someone else been killed?
“Luna…” She choked out before bursting into inconsolable tears.
My heart stopped, the world slowed as I stared at her. Ellen shaking her with her own panic.
“What about the Luna?”
“She’s gone!” The girl wept as Ellen and I stood in shock, disbelief, and grief.

I awoke it seemed much later to both Ellen and Bella snoring, I glanced between the two of them feeling an immense sense of guilt. Ellen led the way through the packhouse, Bella at my rear. It was so surreal. I felt empty looking at each area as memories of my life passed by.
