CHAPTER SIXTY-SIX

NORA

Gavner rushed over to me, carrying the baby from my arms. He squatted, placing his arms on my waist as he helped me stand up.

As I stood up, I wondered why he wasn't scared. I could harm him. I can't even trust myself anymore.

The pain in my throat was still lingering as it stung me. "You shouldn't be here," I said, my voice barely above a whisper.

He pulled me closer to himself, closing the distance between us as I placed my hand on his chest.

"Are you saying I should leave you to kill every member of the pack?" he said tenderly as I felt his chest rise and fall on my hands.

He carefully led me to the roadside. Helping me into the car, he handed the baby over to me as he turned around and hopped into the car.

As he drove through the woods, I stared at the baby in my arms, whimpering. Knowing fully well that I had fed on his mother and rendered him motherless, it pierced my heart.

It felt like a thousand arrows had been fired into my heart.
