Reborn

The ringing wouldn’t stop, it rang on and on and it was disturbing. I could feel it in my head, and the distant voices that were calling me.

Was this another nightmare?

I covered my ears with my hands as the sound persisted in my head.

“Wake up! Sera.” The warm hand touched me and I flinched.

“Sera. Wake up!”

Immediately I flapped my eyes open and glared at the alarm that was ringing beside my head, I swept it off the bedside table with my hand.

What happened to me?

My hands went to my neck and felt it with my hands, how could I be alive?

Was I dreaming?

I pinched my side to be sure of the reality that I was alive, I sat up on the bed and stared at my body. There were no blood stains, and I was in a nightie.

It was a dream and I had just woken up from it.

“What’s wrong, Sera? You’re acting strange.” The voice which I was so familiar with spoke beside me with his hand stretched out to touch me, I moved back away from him.

Why did he sound so worried about me?

“What is wrong my love?”

I scoffed and tied my hair behind my head.

“I was trying to wake you up, today was the big day. We promised to visit your father after the mating ceremony. We have to go visit him today and you overslept so I had to wake up. Oh dear, I’m sorry if that had upset you. You know I won’t do anything to hurt you, my love.” Logan took my hands and clasped them over his.

“I love you so much, I would never hurt or do anything for you, my love. You know I would protect you with my life.” He placed a kiss on my hand. I withdrew them back away from him and surreptitiously wipe them off behind me.

“Sera, honey. I have prepared your bath, Do you want to have your breakfast in bed or do you want to eat with me in the dining?”

“Logan?” I furrowed my brows at me.

What was happening?

That fact that Logan had killed me, was it all a dream?

“Yes, it’s me, my love.” He smiled sweetly at me and moved his hips closer to the bed.

“Wait, my father?!” I poke a hand on my chest.

My father was dead, we promised to visit my father after the wedding.

After the wedding?!

That was the mating ceremony.

I snapped my head to Logan, he had the blue charms that I had fallen in love with since we were kids. The sheepish expressions he held, his boyish face, and those brown hairs, Logan's hair was black.

The night after the wedding, five years ago it was our first night together and I bled. Logan had changed the bedsheets when I stood up to get a shower.

It was my first time having sex so I would never forget it.

I stood up from the bed to be sure of what I was feeling and if this was all true.

“Sera, honey the bedsheets are stained.”

‘Don’t worry, I’ll have it changed immediately.’ That should be his next words after he smiled at me.

“Don’t worry, honey I’ll have it changed immediately.”

I stepped backward away from Logan, my eyes brimming with tears. My hands reached out to my neck and I touched them.

What happened to me?

Logan wrapped the bedsheets in his hands and dumped them into the basket that was in the corner, he opened the wardrobe and was taking out a new bedsheet. He walked over to the bed and spread them appropriately on the bed.

“I prepared a warm bath for you. You don’t want the water to become much cold. Come on now, go have a bath. Do you want me to wash you up?” He smirked and was approaching me.

I moved back away from him until my back hits the wall.

“We could spend a long time in here, and we might forget we have to see your father.” He lift my chin and I slapped his hands off.

Logan was taken aback by my behavior.

He looked shrewdly at me and his lips curled into a faux smile.

“You should tell me you don’t want that, I wasn’t planning to hurt you.” He tried to touch me again, and I withdrew from him.

“I want to be alone Logan.”

“Is it because of last night? I was in...” he trailed off with an apologetic face.

“It’s not because of last night or the night after or the night before just leave me alone, Logan leave me alone! Just go!” My lips quivered and the surface of my eyes was welled up in tears.

“Seraphim.” Logan was stunned but then he nodded, grabbed the basket at the side of the room, and walked out.

My legs gave in and I placed a hand over my mouth as I muffled my cries.

Over the wall, there was a mirror, I rose slowly and twirled around and saw the red stain on the white nightgown I wore.

I remembered the clothes, it was my mom’s gift to me before she passed I had to wear them on the night of my wedding.

I dragged my feet closer to the mirror and I touched my face.

This wasn’t a dream, my skin was soft and beautiful and my red-brown curly hair, I had straightened them after Logan asked me to, and it made me look ugly.

It was the foolish me in my twenties when I had given up on college to get married to Logan.

“I’m alive...I lived.” I muttered in the mirror and tears spilled out of my eyes.

I hit my hand on my chest, it hurts so much.

I fell on my knees.

I was grateful to the moon goddess for this second chance, I don’t know that I had gone back in years, back to when I was twenty and a day after my wedding with Logan and was already mated and marked by him.

Logan, Blair, and my stepmother. I clenched my fist.

I’ll make you pay for what you did to me!

“I have been reborn.”
