Alana's POV

I swallowed hard, panic coursing through me as I found myself standing there, utterly shocked, and staring at my best friend, Suzy, who stood just a few steps away, a look of confusion and betrayal in her eyes as it moved between me and Alex.

For a whole minute, I had forgotten how to breathe. The world suddenly collapsed around me. My initial instinct was to flee and hide. Anything to avoid the inevitable confrontation that was about to unfold between my best friend and me.

Her eyes moved between my proximity and Alex, a blush of embarrassment warmed my cheeks, and my pulse quickened.

As I took a hesitant step backward and away from him, a strong grip closed around my arm, preventing my possible escape. The touch was firm and strangely reassuring. It was Alex; how could I forget he was still standing there and also the same reason for the situation that had befallen us?
