ANNA

BETA TATE LED me through a winding path to the health infirmary on the other side of the pack grounds. The building looked newly constructed and I could not help but ask, "Is the building new?"

Tate smiled sheepishly and said, "Yes, ma'am. When the sickness got too pressing and was a confirmed epidemic, we had to quickly have this built away from the pack to reduce the spread."

That was strange for me to hear. Back in our kingdom, we had a very well-equipped hospital even though nobody visited it.

He opened a steel door and stood aside to let me through first. "This is the security area, where the safety gears are."

I put on the long latex gloves and headwear that were provided and went into the main infirmary. It was a large room of about 80 to 100 beds sectioned off into cubicles with transparent plastic nylons and curtains.

I could tell that it was almost half filled. This was worse than I had anticipated. As I walked through the hall and peeked into some of the wards, I knew
