81: The wedding night

Rachel was a walking joke. The wicked woman accused me of seeking to be the center of attention. The hypocrisy was evident in her eyes, but only I could see it. Demian was too blind to realize the kind of person he was with.

I almost let out a nervous smile. I almost mocked Rachel right to her face, but I held back. Demian sat up in bed and tried to calm things down, but Rachel was furious. She hadn’t found out what happened until now. It must have been a shock for her to learn that Demian allowed himself to be hit to save my life.

"I don't think this is the time to fight. Let's all relax. I'm fine, Rachel. Calm down. You shouldn't be here. Why did you come? Who called you?"

"The hospital called me. I have to be here because I’m your wife, Demian. We said we’d be together in good times and bad." She touched her belly. "Our baby and I wanted to see you, darling."
