I held his gaze for a moment, searching for any flicker of guilt or unease, but found none. Reluctantly, I backed down, realizing that my suspicions had led me astray. I couldn't let unfounded accusations tear us apart.

"Fine, Derek. I believe you," I conceded, my voice tinged with a mix of relief and regret. "I apologize for doubting you. It's just that the situation has put us all on edge."
