Chapter 5 A New Life

The scene before Amelia made her eyes water. It hurt to watch them, and it pierced her lonely heart even more.

Her husband had brought his mistress to her room, and the two of them were making love on her very own bed.

Did Liam ask John to send her off to visit Maria just so he could bring this woman back here? Was it all because he wanted to spend more time with this celebrity named Ava?

What about Amelia then? What was she to him now? She had stayed in this house for three whole years just because of a marriage certificate.

All this time, she had held on to the hope that she could enter his heart someday and truly become Mrs. Prescott.

It never crossed Amelia's mind that she'd end up in such a situation. Dejected, she slumped on the couch.

The panting upstairs hadn't subsided. They instilled fear and uncertainty in her. She pushed through the door and darted out of the house aimlessly.

She had stayed in this place for three years, and she'd always been cautious and played her part well. She never left the villa alone because she feared something might happen and ruin the Prescott family's reputation.

This marriage of hers existed only because of their families' benefits, but they were still husband and wife, after all! The marriage certificate tied them together.

That was why she always tried to be a good wife to Liam. However, he never gave her a chance. Even today, he would bring another woman home to humiliate her!

Crouching, tears started flowing down her cheeks, and she wept until she was worn out. Then, she walked back in the direction of the house.

She didn't go into the house, though. Instead, she turned and went to the garden at the back of the building and sat on the bench.

She'd never been this upset before. Yet, now, it sharpened her mind and cleared her thoughts. Now that her marriage had fallen into such a state, it was high time she started prioritizing herself.

The following morning, Amelia returned to the villa to find it quiet. It was as if no one noticed that she was gone.

May, one of the servants who was busy preparing breakfast, noticed Amelia entering the house. She had a look of pity and disdain when she glanced at Amelia.

She pitied Amelia for being ignored by her husband and scorned her for her incompetence in keeping her man to herself.

Amelia wore an expressionless face as she walked back to her room. Liam and the woman had not woken up. Amelia stared at them. The woman was fast asleep in Liam's arms, and it seemed like they had a close relationship.

All of a sudden, Amelia felt nauseous. She spat on the ground, her spit coincidentally landing on the woman's dress on the floor.

Hastily, Amelia packed some of her clothes. She then pulled open the drawer at the head of the bed. Her marriage certificate lay in there. She froze for a moment before deciding that she no longer wanted to see it.

After shutting the drawer, she grabbed her belongings and headed outside. Her steps were brisk, and she found herself hastening her footsteps now that she felt at ease. She had sorted out her thoughts.

Maria was wrong. Loyalty should be founded on mutual respect. Amelia had been loyal to Liam all this time, but he wandered about like a playboy. He even dared to bring his mistress back to their home.

After all that had happened, there was no reason for Amelia to stay there and wait for him all day and every day.

To be frank, she could bear the fact that Liam didn't return often. Not only could she stand him ignoring and being indifferent toward her, she also swallowed her rage when she learned of all those scandals about him.

However, she could not accept it if he humiliated her like this!

Amelia listened to the sound of luggage wheels scraping the ground as she dragged it by the road. The corner of her lips slowly tilted up into a smile. Today would be the day she started anew!

When Liam woke up, Amelia had been gone for a long time. He frowned when he realized that he was back at Riverbay Residence.

A woman that he hated to his core lay beside him, naked. No explanation was needed for anyone to understand what had happened last night.

Abruptly, he remembered that Amelia lived in this house. He put on his clothes and rushed downstairs.

"Where's she?" he asked.

Stunned, May took a moment to realize that he was talking about Amelia.

"Madam went out. She even brought some luggage with her."

May had always assumed that Liam didn't care about Amelia, so she didn't stop her when she headed outside. She never expected that Liam would ask her about this. Panic clawed at her throat.

Liam knitted his brows as a shadow flitted across his face. Amelia had taken her luggage with her.

"What is she up to? Did she just run away from home?"
