Mary gradually opened her eyes, one eye first and then the other. She looked around, it took a few minutes before she was able get a clear vision of her environment. Two people were standing by the side of the bed, she blinked severally to get a clearer view. It was Adonis and a woman dressed in a lab coat. She lifted herself up by her elbow, feeling a slight pain on her forehead. She looked around, she was on the bed in her room. She wondered how she had for there. She suddenly remembered the accident and how traumatized she had been when the break failed, it happened that she passes out as a result of shock from the minor accident that she had with Adonis car. Seeing that she was awake, Adonis rushed to the bed and sat close to her. “Thank goodness you are awake” he said putting his arms around her. “Are you okay? Don’t try to move too much okay! Mary wondered who was so important that he was texting in his phone that he could not even spare a second from his phone to even look at her. She felt annoyed, it could be one of his numerous women. She stood there for some time, watching him and hoping that he would at least look at her. But he seemed to not even care about her presence there. She shut the fridge with a loud bang after taking her water, then she angrily walked away while dragging her feet along with her. Mary had no idea why she was angry, whether it was because Adonis trie to kill her, or if it was because he ignored her abd focused on his phone, or if it was because she felt he was texting other women or if it was his hypocrisy. The next morning, Mary was surprised to find herself lying comfortably on the bed, she had remembered sitting on the chair and reading a book before she was eventually carried away by sleep. She could not even remember a line from what she read the previous night, it was such a pity that her effort to use the book to keep awake turned out to be futile. She sat up and looked to the other side to find her novel closed and kept neatly on the bedside table, she wondered if it was Adonis that had come into her room and helped her lye comfortably on the bed. "well who else?" She rolled her eyes. "He probably finally got time from whoever it was he was texting on his phone and had time for me". "Who is it" Mary asked with shaky voice.She kept quiet for a while, waiting for a response but there was none. "Who is it?" She asked again, but there was still no response. Adonis stood there with his hands in his pocket as he watched her walk away from him. A lot of emotions he could not explain ran through his mind, causing chaos in the inside of his head. He slowly went back inside his study and picked his phone. He looked through the window and saw her walking through the walkway across the street. Having no zeal to continue with his work, Adonis walked out of his study, Closed the door and walked straight to his room. While Mary sat in the bus back to Ohio, she rested her head on the window, looking outside through the window, at houses and the stores they drove past. She sighed before she brought out her phone from her bag and texted Mia that she was already on her way home. Mia texted back and asked her to be careful, and wished her good luck too. After having dinner with her parents Mary went back to her room with the intentions of going straight to bed, but she changed her mind and decided to take a shower first. It was a cold night so she decided to take a warm shower lest she would catch a cold. After taking her bath, Mary got dressed and proceeded to dry her hair. She opened her drawer but could not find her dryer, she tried checking among her other things but still could not find it. She remembered her mom had helped her unpack, she considered going to ask her if she had seen her dryer while unpacking before it occured to her that she might have left it behind at Adonis place. "Too bad" she exclaimed. She would just get another, because for no reason would she be going back to Adonis house. Only that at her current state now she would not even be able to afford anything close to a dryer. Mary blinked repeatedly as the rays of sunlight from the open window hit her face, warming her face up causing her to squint as she opened her eyes fully. She realized only then that she had forgotten to close her window before she slept off last night. She wondered why her mom had not woken her up for the usual morning prayers and at the same time she was glad that her sleep was not interrupted. She picked up her phone from the bedside table and scrolled through it, even though she hated Adonis so much for trying to kill her, a part of her still expected to see a text from him. She let out a sigh of relief when there was nothing from him on her phone, and also chided her heart for being stupid. Standing up from the bed she arranged her scattered hair scattered hair which looked like that of a bedraggled masquerade before finding her way out of her room. Mary decided to surprise her parents by making dinner before they get back from work, although she sulked at cooking she still wanted to impress them. She stood in the kitchen, confused on what to prepare. She later settled for toasts, it was the easiest thing she could make at that time, she needed to hurry, her parents would soon be back. Mary sat down in the living room after making dinner, it looked like her parents were takin to long to come back, she decided to sit In the sitting room and get busy with her phone while she awaited their arrival. She used that opportunity to check online for other places where she could work when she eventually quits her job. Mary had fallen asleep on the couch by the time her parents came back from work.
