63. "The Truth"

Harriet’s Point of View

“I am your personal maid and my name is Mary.”

Mary was a lady whom I saw for the first time claimed to be my maid.

Before I could ask more, Mary explained, “I heard that you lost your memories. So, you probably won’t remember me.”

I tried to rummage through my memory, but there was nothing there at all as if someone had taken scissors to that area of my mind.

“You were my maid?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“Then, why are you no longer my maid? Is it because I lost my memories?”

A somber expression crossed Mary’s face as I confirmed my suspicions. “Yes, Miss. I dismissed from my position after your memories slipped away.”

I felt sorry that a lady lost her job because of me. “I am sorry if I am the cause.”

The lady, however, reassured, “Miss, it was not your doing. Your stepbrother is the one responsible for this.”
