Chapter 65 - Cat and Mouse

Drake POV

My eyes dart back and forth as my ears perk and strain to hear anything little noise around me. The only sound I hear is my heart pounding in my chest.

Hesitantly, I whisper, “Do you think someone is outside?”

My father slowly spins around and narrows his eagle eyes, taking in everything but remaining silent.

I swallow the lump in my throat and softly ask, “Do you…”

His lips press together, and he shoots me a glare as his finger snaps up into the air, being my only warning.

Is someone really out there? Am I right that we should have moved sooner?

Something else snaps outside but on the other side of the house. My head jerks around and my ears perk up, trying to hear anything else, but I can still only hear the pounding of my heart.

I need a weapon.

My mind goes blank. Where are the weapons? We have brought a few, but not too many. My mind runs through every probable place in the house.

Shit. They are upstairs in the bedroom, if that is what you can call the room
