"Good job," I patted his back and remained on the spot looking at Vera. Every cell in my body wanted me to move towards her, hold her in my arms and feel her heart beating again. But I didn't do it. I just stood there rigidly, looking at her.

Fred shone a light from a tiny torch into her eyes. But she didn't blink or respond in any way. He carried out some quick tests on her but she didn't respond to any.
