Chapter 18: A Female Alpha

Axton’s P.O.V

I heard Anika’s head fall back on to the ground and knew that she fallen unconscious probably because of fear rather than her injuries. I could scent blood on her and it made me anxious to find out exactly how hurt she was, but I had to wait. There was a bigger problem in front of me.

 It was then that I turned into my human form and looked directly at the intruder wolf, taking a protective stance in front of Anika. If the wolf was out for blood, it would have to go through me first.

“Who are you?” I growled deep in my throat, standing guard over Anika’s unconscious form. “Show yourself!”

I knew every member of my pack by their very own unique scents, but this was no packmate. This was a wolf from another pack, probably an enemy. And even though my old pack was no longer my responsibility, I wasn’t going to let it hurt Anika. If I had arrived only a few seconds later, the
