Extra Two
Logan Novak
The sound of little footsteps running towards me was the first thing that greeted me as I entered our home.
"Daddy!" The voice of my little boy, Kyle, shouted before little hands came to wrap around my legs. I beamed, moving to unwrap his arms around my legs, and taking him into my arms.
Looking at him, I beamed. He was now three and a miniature version of me. Of course my sons took my charming features, and I was certainly elated. I noticed how his hair was falling to cover up his little hazel eyes. It had only been a week since we'd given him a trim, but his jet black hair was even longer than it had been.
"He
BonusKhloe NovakI laid awake listening to the whispering coming from down the hall and footsteps as they moved around. It was only six in the morning, which is very early when you're a parent, and certainly welcome to a few more minutes of sleep. No doubt our kids were up and about this early in the morning. I smiled imagining what they're discussing amongst themselves.I knew it had to be Emily leading the others. Being a big sister, she sometimes persuaded her little siblings to do whatever she wants. Now at 15, she was a typical teenager, and had once or twice given her dad a heart attack when she'd spoken about having a boyfriend.Lo
PrologueKhloe AndersonAs I locked up my shop for the evening, I breathed a sigh of relief. My eyelids were practically closing on their own, and my back was killing me from baking constantly since morning. It had been a tough day at work, with many customers calling to place orders for parties, meetings and weddings. I'd also had to prepare lists that my staff would need to use in the morning. My catering service attracted customers, but at a time like now, I was happy to be going home. I couldn't wait until I lay perfectly on my bed tonight, and snuggled into my warm comforter, forgetting all about the world for at least a few hours. That's something I'm looking forward to.Looking at m
Chapter OneLogan NovakSigning the last couple documents before I can go home for the evening, I frown when my secretary Diana Ward barges into my office like she owns the place."Yes Diana?" I snap, not bothering to hide my annoyance towards the woman. Returning my gaze to the documents on my desk, I ignore the seductive glances I know are being directed towards me at the moment. The contracts on my desk must be finalized today so we can start operations on Monday. And I'd planned on spending the weekend with my parents. I hadn't seen them in a week, and for mom, that meant a month. So, I wasn't looking forward to staying at the office late t
Chapter TwoLogan NovakF.D.A.P (Fort Daniel Army Personnel) Military BaseLocation:ClassifiedAs the HH-60 Air Force Helicopter lands on the bases' tarmac, I gaze around at my surroundings. The base is enclosed by miles of forest, seeming to have no contact with civilization. A number of soldiers run along the road that's been used for training, as others sit in groups, probably on a break. Grabbing my army duffle bag, I jump off the helicopter and unto the ground, and Chris follows suit.
Chapter ThreeKhloe AndersonThe rattling of a doorknob is what awakened me for the second time since I've been here- in this awful room. I panicked. Someone was unlocking the door to enter the room. Maybe it's just food. But that didn't stop my mind from thinking about all possibly reasons why someone could be entering the room. Are they going to kill me? Are they about to let me go? However, why would they kidnap me just to let me go in the end?Is this how I go out? When I thought about my death, I'd always dreamt about what my last meal would be like. Would I be gone without even a last meal? I hated thinking about this. When a man enters the room
Chapter FourLogan Novak"General, are you seeing this?" I spoke into the microphone. I felt the presence of my squad members as they looked at the face of the man we'd just killed."Not clearly. Who is this?" His voice came through the device."Dave Sanchez," I answered. I heard his gasp via my ear piece. Surprise could barely explain what I or anyone else felt at the moment. In all the preparation to rescue the general's daughter, I'd never thought about meeting one of America's most wanted men on the rescue mission. Actually, we had no idea whom we would've encountered. It was like a blind-date, but with violence, and no actual d
Chapter FiveKhloe AndersonWaking the next morning, I'm greeted by an eerily quiet environment. I groan at the thought of it being Monday. The television is turned off and the apartment shows no other form of life. Sitting up on the couch, I yawn. Certainly unladylike but rather appreciated in such an early, chilly morning.I don't hear water indicating that Brad is preparing for work. Looking at the clock, I notice it's about the time I normally met him outside on my way to work in the morning. He's probably gone already, I thought.Standing, I walk over to the window, pulling the curtains to the side to look outside. It still shows signs of a cold weather, and I hug myself for much needed warmth.
Chapter SixKhloe AndersonAnd you might want to keep your key in a safer place. And you might want to keep your key in a safer place...My head snapped towards him as I finally understood how those men entered my apartment. His words kept replaying in my mind. He'd seen where I kept my spare key. He'd helped them. He gave them permission to enter my apartment. Everything was about him.It would explain my apartment's heater turned on the night I was kidnapped. They were beyond bold. He was beyond bold. Why am I even surprised? I shouldn't be. His line of work, he had n
