"Coast is clear, sir," Pete confirmed after stepping outside.

I let go of Mae and noticed how few of the persons who didn't have their faces down on the table fell to the floor when they tried to stand. Everyone in the hall had been drugged.

The snipers' laser sights still had the vice Mayor glued to where he stood, almost shitting his pants.

"No, it's not," I told Pete. There were possibly more out there. These people, whoever they were or whoever sent them weren't here for Lade or myself, they were here for the Mayor. But luckily for the asshole, he wasn't here. He had sent the vice Mayor to represent him. Poor man. His face was embedded with sweat as he looked at me for help.

If I'm not mistaken, those men who left here just before these armed men came in have a hand in this; those politicians probably planned this with the event organizers. It's not hard to arrive at that because the press had shut out from being present to broadcast the event.
