With my hair still messy from last night and my pace fastened down the hall, I met Pete about to go down the stairs so I stopped him.

"I need to speak to sir Vance," I breathed out just a fraction of my eagerness to find out some things; anything.

Pete eyed me from my head to my toes and then, he just skipped past me, down the stairs, and continued on his way to get into the car waiting for him out front.

I sighed, a little of my curiousness dying. For all I knew, Leo could be waiting in that car Pete just entered so I couldn't meet him. On the contrary, Leo could also be in his chamber or study.

I turned towards the one closest to where I stood, his work study. I got to the door and placed a knock on it, twirling the ring in my left hand and trying to balance how my breathe sounded.

No answer came so I knocked again. ‘please be in there,’ I whispered impatiently and was about to place another knock but paused.

If he was in there, he must have heard me knock the two times I did. Disa
