It’s past dinner, but my appetite doesn’t quite agree with me putting anything into my mouth. I keep on having a strange feeling in my gut that something was wrong, and I can't shake it off, no matter how much I try. After repeatedly pacing back and forth in my office, I decided to go for a perimeter run. Just to calm myself down and maybe tire myself so that I get some sleep.

Two hours passed like a blur as I supervised the night’s patrol. Everything was going smoothly, but my wolf became even more alert. That’s when it hit me; it was quiet. Too quiet. Beside the sound of paws against the ground, which I knew belonged to my trackers and warriors, there wasn’t any other sound—no crickets, locusts, not even the tree branches. Everything was still, like time itself suddenly just stopped.
