Fifty-Seven

Sally's POV

Training is all I do all weekend, no one is home, and they are going to one of those secret location meetings. Thank God for that. But, I guess, some of the house's maids are around.

I remembered what the old man had told me this morning in the tea room.

My grandparents sat across from me, the tension slowly starting to rise.

"Sally, I don't think I should keep this from you anymore." He stopped. "I've said this before. Time is slowly catching up with me."

Why did he say such confusing words?

My grandmother sat silently, sipping tea. She just occasionally threw me a few sympathetic looks, but not much more than that.

"Out of all my grandchildren, I have decided to choose you as my next successor."

I can feel my heart slowly sinking. I don't want this.

I held my breath. "Why? Why me?"

“When the time is right, I will tell you.” His eyes immediately glanced to the right side of the room as one of the housemaids entered with our breakfast tray.
