Chapter twenty two

Angel

The sun was lowering beyond the horizon as I went closer to the warehouse, bathing the city in a cozy orange glow. It had been a difficult day due to the usual insanity of managing my empire. But tonight, I noticed a difference. A huge weight dropped onto my chest, and I sensed imminent catastrophe.

A call alerting me to an attack on one of my warehouses had just come in. Fear and mistrust raced through my head as I rushed through the barely lit streets. My heart was pounding in my chest and my spine was chilled by the silence of the night. I understood that I couldn't handle this on my own and that I needed assistance. Martin was only person who came to mind. He had recently returned from a vacation in Paris, and I hoped he could provide some insight into the situation.

Martin was standing close to the door, and a nearby street lamp was illuminating his form. He appeared worn out and as though the entire world was pressing down on him. I cautiously walked up to him and said, "M
