Chapter 02

Melissa woke up only to find herself in a large and super comfortable bed. She groaned in pain, as the sweet smell of something hit her nostrils hard. Food! Food!

She cocked her head towards the right and found a tray of bread, egg and tea waiting for her. In a hurry, she carried the tray and began munching hungrily on the food, not minding who dropped it there.

Once she was done eating, Melissa laid down on the bed. Finally, she had something to eat. She could have starved to death last night if not for the stranger. She suddenly recalled the man running towards her before she fainted, but wasn't able to see his face.

Taking a deep breath, Melissa jerked up on her feet once she heard the creaking sound of the door.

He walked in only to see the frightened look on her face and immediately halted the moment she picked up the lamp for safety.

"Don't be scared, I'm not gonna hurt you?"

"Who are you? Why am I here? Are you one of them?"

Even when she was married to Alexander, no one in his pack liked her. She had on several occasions tried to be killed, so it made her think the stranger wanted to kill her too.

"If I wanted to kill you, you would have been dead by now."

She suddenly let her guard down hearing him say that.

"The food?"

She suddenly recalled that she had eaten the food not minding who had dropped it there yet she wasn't dead.

"I don't even know you, how would I even think of hurting you?"

Finally, she dropped her hands down making the lamp fall on the floor. "Why did you save me?"

"Should I have left you dying?"

Tears were at the brink of falling from her eyes with just the thought that someone out there really cared for her. Weakly, Melissa fell back on the bed.

This was the first time someone except Alexander ever cared about her. Melissa grew up with her aunt after her mother's death and she was never shown care or love. She dropped out from school and worked at a bakery and also at a restaurant when she was 16, and by chance she met Alexander and discovered later that he was her mate.

Now that Alex had shown her his dark side, Melisa had thought no one would ever look her in the face and smile or save her, but she was wrong.

"What's wrong? Did I make you cry?" The stranger asked when he saw tears sliding down her eyes.

Melissa shook her head in negation. She was only recalling the fact that her life was going to be a mess from now. She had a baby to take care of and no source of livelihood.

Seeing that she wouldn't stop crying, he walked closer to her and sat on the bed next to her.

"Everything simply went south in just one night. I did nothing wrong and yet he never looked me in the eyes twice. He called me a whore and humiliated me in front of everyone who always wished to see me humiliated."

Melissa didn't need to go further anymore because he understood what she was trying to say. The look on his face showed pity when she sniffled. "You don't have to look at me with those eyes." She stared back at him.

"Thank you for helping me. I'll take my leave now." She said and rose up on her feet.

Taking one step, he immediately stopped her.

"Do you have somewhere to live? Maybe like a family or someone else_ aunt, sis?"

Melissa scoffed. Why even mention their names when they would never take her in. Her cousin sister was meant to have married Alexander, but he never loved her.

Her aunt would laugh at her face if she saw her now or even heard Alexander had rejected her even after the unconditional love he had shown her years back.

"I don't have any family." Melissa replied and began walking towards the door.

He ran towards her and grabbed her arm.

"Are you going to live out on the streets with a baby?"

Melissa was shocked to her bones. How the hell did he find out she was even pregnant. No one was supposed to know except her.

"How did you find out?"

"I had a doctor come check up on you after I found you on the streets. She says there's a high chance of losing your baby if you starve yourself some more and get stressed."

Just hearing the word losing her baby made Melissa scared. This baby was her entire life, her world and she wasn't going to lose it for anything. She might have lost Alex for good, but she would never lose this baby because it was all she had with Alex.

She stared down at his hands holding her, and it gave her this warm feeling that everything was going to be alright. She just had to fight hard to survive.

"I'll…"

"No, you definitely won't be fine on your own. There are bad people out there who would want to hurt you."

Melissa heaved deeply.

"If you aren't thinking about yourself, then maybe you shouldn't be selfish and think about the life of the baby you're carrying."

He was right. She had to think about her baby, but he didn't understand that was all she was thinking about right now.

"I live alone. Why don't you move in with me?" He suggested it immediately.

Melissa's eyes widened in shock. She cocked her head towards his direction and stared at him, still finding it hard to believe. She was going to stay alone with a man?

"I wouldn't save you if I wanted to hurt you. I'm Kristen. No one's gonna hurt you as long as I'm here."

He sounded so different like he was concerned about her. If everybody in the world was like this man, then the world would be a better place. Melissa smiled then nodded her head in appreciation.

It wasn't for her sake, but for the sake of her baby that she was doing it. She would have this baby and raise the child with so much love.

"Thank you… thank you so much Kristen. I'm never going to forget this." Melissa cried while he slowly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a hug as she cried on his shirt.

Melissa knew one thing… her life was definitely going to change from now onwards.
