The surgery day drew closer and all the necessary tests were carried out to ensure that the surgery would be hitch free. Both Amber and Tom were following up with all the process till the surgery date was set. She felt extremely glad about all that had happened, and she wanted to scream badly, but it would be so rude of her to scream loudly like that in the hospital, so she thought of where to let out her joy and the park that would be empty at that time of the day dropped in her mind. She didn’t even remember to take her phone along, so she missed Tom’s call since she was already in the elevator when he called. Her elevator opened at the exact time he arrived at the hospital, but she also missed him again because she was facing the entrance already. She sprinted as fast as her legs could carry her to the park and shouted to the top of her lungs, all her cells jumping off for joy as the indescribable feeling of happiness and freedom swept through her. Since it was Tom’s birthday, Anita had cooked different foods to celebrate his day. She texted him, wishing him a happy birthday as usual, and that was the first time he would reply to her for the past sixteen years. Her phone flew out of her hand in surprise when his reply of “Thank you mum”, dropped on her phone. She could not believe something like that was happening to her, she had to keep on checking over and over to make sure she was not dreaming, but she wasn’t, no matter how many times she rechecked. Her mood in the house was extraordinary because she kept humming and giggling at every minute’s interval making the maids around wonder what was happening to her to cause this reaction, but their guess was the fact that her son’s birthday was that day. She finished all the preparations, snapped them and sent them over to Tom, who was closing up at the office with “I prepared your favorite”, caption. He only smiled and headed down to his car where he met Amber waiting for him. H

Her face went wild at the revelation of Tom wanting to take everything from Joseph. She wondered what he meant by that and what prompted him to make that resolution. She had to stand properly, leaving the table she was leaning on to give him the proper attention to what he had to say. “Why did you suddenly change your mind? This was not your mindset before”, she questioned, and he smiled a bit to ease the tension building up between them. “It’s not something that serious, don’t get yourself worked up over something like that”, he responded, but she was not satisfied. The curiosity to know why he changed his mind and also the fear that something might happen to him set in within her. Thanks to Amber’s visit to Tom’s house on his birthday, Stephanie was able to get a grip of herself even though she sulked over it for days and didn’t take a step out of her room. All her work was transferred to her email, and she worked over it at home. She had been working crazily for three days that she didn’t even realize that she hadn’t taken a bath for those three days. It was when she stood up to stretch herself and her eyes fell on her disheveled hair that was all across her head and shoulders. A loud scream escaped her throat as she scanned her full body in the mirror. She was a stinking mess and that was what she hated the most in the world. Anything dirty irritated her the most, she can’t stand it, no matter how little it is and seeing herself that dirty, rough and messy got her surprised, pissed up and disappointed in herself. Ever since the day Tom declared his intention of getting the whole group, Amber began to make moves on her own end too. She would not wait and let Tom be ousted from the group just like that after all his hard work throughout the years. She was well known in the secretaries’ groups, so everyone was already ready to render help whenever she needed one. She thought about using them to her advantage, and they were willing to help. Her mother was finally discharged from the hospital, and she brought her home to stay with her. Tom was understanding enough to give her a few days' holiday in order to keep her company and help her adapt to living on her own now, since there is no caregiver like in the hospital. Even though she was at home, she made sure to do all her office work on time and sent it in through the mail, so her absence was not felt in the slightest. Her mother, who had not seen her work closely, was proud of her as she silently gazed at her daughter from behind while she was

Her mom had noticed that she and Tom were in an argument because she rarely picked up his calls or replied to his texts, which was unusual. She pretended as if she hadn’t been aware for days, hoping they would mend up soon, but when she saw that it was getting longer than usual, she had to step in. Amber had just come back from work that very day and went straight to shower because she was exhausted, thanks to the extreme work at the mall that day as they were sorting the new orders that came in. She finished cleaning herself up and went up to the table to have some food her mom had already dished and just as she settled down, her mother opened up. “What is going on between you and Tom? Are you both not going to make up? Until when will you continue this fight?”, she suddenly asked, to Amber’s surprise. The drive down to the wedding venue was a silent one as different thoughts flowed through her head. She had still not figured out why Tom was bent on making her follow him to the wedding when she clearly didn’t want to go. It was something that was against her will and she would be lying if she claimed not to be disappointed in his rigid decision. Nevertheless, the outcome of the wedding will determine the new turnout of their relationship both as a boss and employee and also as lovers, because she’s not ready to date someone who will not reason with her but fix his own decisions on her instead. That kind of relationship is not what she wanted and it is draining. The ride was a silent one as all she did was stare out of the car’s window to calm herself down a little bit. It wouldn’t be nice for people to start taking notes of her mood or start asking her if she was fine, that would be another lot of stress she’s not ready to pass through, not now at all.
