Chapter Forty-Eight

"Stephen? Why do I still have to go to midnight's park mating ceremony? I thought I was given to you as an apology" She asked me, clearly afraid.

"Yes, but you still belong to the midnight pack, and you are still an unmated she-wolf."

"Can't Reagan just tell him that I am sick or something?"

"But you are not sick, and besides, as many people will know, Reagan cannot do that."

She rolled her eyes and said, "Thanks for reminding Princess Alix; I will never ask your prince to help me again. After all, it is my problem. But when it is yours, I always have to be at your beck and call."

She bowed, then stormed off, pushing a vase on her way down.

I followed her, but she slammed the living room door while going in.

I hurriedly opened it and caught up with her on the stairs that led to the rooms. I tried to pull her back, but she yanked my hand off. I lost my balance and slipped.

"Ouch," I said, then tried to stand up.

She made to help, but I heard someone snarl behind me. She froze and shift
