Chapter 44 - Still Trying To Trust
SKYLER'S POV
Finding out what my father had planned for me on my 18th birthday was a shock, especially as he only seemed to be happy when he was punishing me, but then that would be the ultimate punishment, making me take my mother's place.
I am brought out of my shock when Samuel, Emma, Marcus, Cooper, Ruby and Samantha all come running up to us yelling,
"WHAT'S FOR LUNCH??"
I smile and crouch down and ask, "Okay, what did you pups want for lunch?"
"Mac and cheese or sandwiches?"
I laugh as I get a unanimous, "MAC AND CHEESE!"
"Okay, let's head inside so you all can wash your hands and I can make lunch..."
They all run back inside our home. As I stand to follow them, I look around and notice that Cole has disappeared. I sigh and head inside, knowing that if I take much longer, the pups will be back out pestering me again.

SKYLER'S POV Once inside, I stand off to the side of the door and personally welcome everyone as they enter. It isn't long before some of the outside Alpha's start to arrive. After a while, I move from the door and over to one of the refreshment tables. I take a small glass of water as my stomach rolls a little. I put the glass down and jump a little as 2 arms wrap around me from behind. I smile and relax as I feel warmth and butterflies skim over my skin. Nathan then whispers into my ear, "Angel? ALPHA CHRISTOPHER'S POV I sit at my desk doing some paperwork when I look over and spot the last family photo I received from my sister-in-law. I haven't heard from my brother David or my sister-in-law Catherine in nearly 17 years. This means that I haven't seen either my niece or nephew in all those years. ALPHA CHRISTOPHER I knock and enter the Mason Alpha office. I am surprised to see that all 3 Mason Alpha's are there. I was only expecting 2 of them. Something massive must have happened to change the order of power amongst them. ALEXANDER'S POV Cole has been spending a lot of time in the barracks and in the training fields. I watch him as he moves around the recruits and smile. It is something that he used to love doing, but in his position as oldest of his brothers, his Alpha duties always came before anything else. Since he has come back, I have noticed that he misses those duties as he hasn't been able to do them. He, however, has been really helpful around here with the recruit training and keeping the security patrols up to date and always changing. As I had said to him when he questioned me after I had rescued Skyler from her father, I didn't like what he did to her, but he is still one of my Alpha's. So when he approached me and said he had found one of the spies I have been looking for, I couldn't, not believe him. I had laughed to myself when he said he was going to get Skyler to cancel the New Moon celebration. She has done it every new moon for the past 3 years.
