Sophie Makes a friend

“Hey baby.” Sophie blinks being kissed on her cheek, looking up from her notes to see her boyfriend.

“Hi mason.” She speaks with a soft smile looking up at him with utmost adoration, she didn't believe this man could do any wrong.

Her boyfriend is Mason Brady, he’s kind of popular and less of a nerd however he’s very smart. Mason and her have been dating for a year or two. He has been such a sweetheart, yes they have their days when they fight but Mason always makes sure they never go to sleep angry at each other. Sophie feels like he’ll be the one she stays with even after they graduate, but she definitely fears that maybe she’ll be wrong and things won’t go as she pictured. Still she has her hope for her and her boyfriend.

“Hey, Soph, did you hear what I said?” Mason asks and Sophie’s eyes snap up to look at him, she blinks a couple of times. “Hm? Could you repeat babe?” She asks batting her eyes softly to which he tsk’s although he was smiling.

“I asked if you’re gonna be having any trouble juggling studying for the tests and babysitting Chloe?” Mason asked and Sophie couldn’t help but smile, Mason was always considerate, always wanting to help. “Yeah babe, I’ll be fine. After all I’ll have Casper to help me.”

Sophie says to which Mason nods his head sitting in his seat next to her, class starting as soon as all the kids were officially seated and ready to learn. “Good morning class, hope you brought your learning skills with you today. We’re going to learn about the Han Dynasty, and it’s importance in History. “

Sophie gets out her pencil and her notebook as she starts to jot down what’s on the board, her hand shooting up first as usual to answer the questions.

“Boo, you nerd. Leave some questions for the rest of us.” She frowned upon hearing that,

So much for hoping the first day of school would be good.

Mason’s hands clenched his desk and he turns around facing the sandy blonde haired boy smirking in his desk. “Watch it, Chad. DON’T make me come back there.” He presses, adding tension to the room. Sophie goes to put her hand on Mason’s hand to calm him down but Chad chuckles leaning forward in his chair. “Oh yeah, what the hell are you gonna do about it, Brady.” He asked with a taunt to his smile and Mason’s getting up to handle him “I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do about it.” Mason says and Sophie grabs Mason before he can do anything.

“Babe.. relax, it’s okay.” She assures him and he snorts at that watching Chad who also stood up challenging his grounds, before sighing and calming down since they were still in class, he’d deal with him later. Mason sat back down in his seat and Sophie sighed in relief looking at Chad in disgust before she sat back down, the rest of the class went by quick. No more problems yet as Chad was being doing what he does best, getting flirted with by every single girl desperate for his attention. Sophie was glad that she wasn’t one of those girls, she couldn’t even stand the thought of liking someone like Chad.

Lunch time]

Sophie enters the lunchroom as she sits down at her normal table, Mason wasn’t there yet so she assumed he was finishing something for class. She had grabbed her food and she started to eat, sitting by herself as usual until she saw a girl approach the table she was sitting at causing her to stare at her a little hesitant. “Can I… help you?” She asks quietly wondering what she wants, she looked like your average popular girl. “Hi, I’m Jane. I wanted to know if you wanted to be friends.. I always see you alone, I mean. Except for when you’re with Casper. I don’t want to see you alone anymore.” She says and Sophie has to process these words before she’s sitting in silence;

This girl wants to be her friend? Why didn’t she ask before hand?

“What do you say?” Jane asks, snapping Sophie out of her daze. “I.. I mean. I don’t need friends but Sure I don’t mind.” Sophie says and Jane smiles at her and she’s sitting at the table with her bag and her tray of food. “I have friends, or well. Acquaintances but no one ever actually makes me want to know them.”

“Do you get it? Like.. I respect and acknowledge and then I go about my day.” Jane says and Sophie nods, she understands. She’s not always a loner but her friends never actually stick around long enough “Yeah, I know what you mean. It makes you feel like a celebrity doesn’t it? Because they only know what you show them and not what you keep to yourself.” Sophie says and Jane smiles nodding her head eating her fries. “Yep, you get it. Sophie, right? Is that your name? Your brother is the more popular sibling, no offense.” She mumbled and Sophie laughs softly shaking her head.

“No trust me I get it, my brothers an international play boy. Not literally but he loves to make friends and he’s on the football team so of course he has tons of people who know him.” Sophie says and Jane laughs softly drinking some of her banana smoothie “I can imagine the amount of girlfriends your mom has had to meet, he’s adorable. And so are you.” She said and Sophie laughs again, her hand wrapping around her apple juice “Yeah, he’s had his fair share of dates but it wasn’t back to back. My brother isn’t that type of guy, every girl surprisingly was a cheerleader but from different schools. Never the same school.”

“Ah, so he’s not only cute but he’s smart too. I can see where he gets it from.” She teased and Sophie blinks before she laughs louder than expected, she never laughed this much during lunch time. Jane just had some kind of effect on her, she was genuinely funny. Sophie was happy to have been making a friend, Jane seems genuine and true.

Sophie hoped she was right this time, she thinks she'd actually warm up to Jane.

"Sophie, tell me. Do you have a boyfriend? You must, look at you. You're gorgeous." Jane compliments and Sophie laughs shyly waving away the compliment unable to help it "Aish, don't say such lies. However, yes I do have a boyfriend."

And Sophie continues to tell Jane about her boyfriend who was late to Lunch and that wasn't a normal for him. However, with Jane beside her Sophie wasn't all too bothered with Mason's lateness yet. She was just happy to finally be able to talk to someone at lunch time, yes she loves her boyfriend but nothing beats having a friend too.
