Chapter 23: Punished

Nyx’s POV

My blood ran cold and all I could hear were the haunting words of Aunt Gracia replaying in my ears.

“Your case will be taken up by the guardians.”

The weight of the words caused me to stagger backwards, with tears stinging my eyes as I stared wide-eyed at the emotionless face of my mother’s sister.

“M-miss Pendleton…”

“Save it.” she shoved her palm dismissively at my face and it was clear that my pleas were going to fall on deaf ears.

“Damn, she’s doomed…” I heard Gus’ trembling voice whisper behind me and the reality of my situation glared at my face.
