Lucius's POV

The security had been increased just like I had instructed and I worked harder, moving between my pack and the human city to make sure no loopholes were left open.

As the day to the party drew closer, I couldn't help the dreadful feeling that ate at the back of my mind.

With Patrick lurking in the corners, I knew this was a very risky mood.

I thought of canceling it but I soon rejected that idea. It was the best way we had developed to push Jolynn out of my life. If we canceled, I would have to keep dealing with her and Patrick.

"Lucius?"

Diane's voice broke through the thick layers of thoughts in my head.

I raised my head from the table and found her leaning against my office door with a worried smile on her face.

My heart immediately jolted and I was up before I even realized it.

"Diane, what's the matter?" I asked as I moved closer to her.

I took her arm and walked her into the office. I offered her a seat and pulled another close to her so I could look at her face.
