Chapter Six - Damien

The pack house had emptied of the morning training session, which Damien was thankful for. He had escaped to his office instantly, in the hope to get some work done. However, Charles was already waiting for him in his usual spot on the leather sofa.

“How’s the rib? Sounded like you broke it”, he spoke matter of fact.

“It’s healed.”, he grunted. He wasn’t wrong, Andrea had broken his rib on her first hit.

“She can fight”, he whistled, his laughter barely contained.

“Yeah, she’s well trained”, he agreed taking a seat behind the desk.

Charles was nodding his head, fidgeting with the book he held in his hands. It was obvious he had a lot on his mind.

“Even the most elite, have never been able to injure you”, he raised an eyebrow. “And I’ve certainly never seen anyone take a hit from a pure-blooded wolf and stay standing, never mind retaliate”

Damien blanched at the reminder he had hit her, hard. He hadn’t meant to, sometimes it was difficult to remember he was stronger than other wolfs and, in the moment, she could have been hurt, because of his idiocy.

“Yeah, that was a shock. I didn’t mean to do that”, Damien slumped in his seat, disgusted by his own actions. That was not something that happened often.

“You’re missing the point”, Charles rolled his eyes at his alpha.

“The point is I fucked up”, Damien growled back at his beta, annoyed by his constant chatter.

“Well yes you did. But, is it possible she is like you?”, he questioned.

Damien hadn’t considered it, however now that it had been brought to his attention, he realised she must be like him. An ordinary wolf would not have survived a fight with him and she had injured him multiple times in the process. Realisation dawned on him and Charles was laughing at the stunned look on the Alphas face.

“Your so slow”, he chuckled to himself.

Damien only scowled at him, “I was otherwise preoccupied”

“Well, she is pretty”, Charles was on his feet in seconds, dodging the glass ornament that missed his head by centimetres and bounced off the wall. The glass scattered across the floor, in thousands of small pieces. Charles held up his hands in surrender and Damien’s growls cut short.

He was on his feet in seconds, “Somethings wrong”

Charles instantly thought they were under attack and was ready to call on forces for back up, but Damien’s next words shocked him.

“I can hear her”, his voice broke and he looked to Charles for help.

“What’s happening”, Charles demanded.

Help, the voice in his mind wasn’t his wolf, but it came to him the same way his wolf’s voice did.

“I think Andrea is asking for help, but it doesn’t sound like her. I don’t know”, he muttered everything out at once and was already out his office in seconds, Charles followed closely behind.

“She hasn’t marked you. You shouldn’t be able to hear her”

“I think it’s her wolf”

“It’s not possible”, Charles whispered, keeping his voice low.

They had reached the top of the steps, and Damien was jogging to her room door. He paused unsure if he should knock or enter. Considering how angry she could get he decided to knock – there was no answer.

“Andrea, are you okay?”, he knocked again. He tried the handle and found it was locked.

Knock down the door, something is wrong, Vince’s thoughts were chaotic. His wolf was having a hard time controlling himself.

Damien slammed into the door once and threw it open, part of the frame broke off.

Andrea was laying on the floor beside the bed, in nothing but her underwear and bra. The bedsheets had been dragged off the bed, where she had fallen.

He was at her side instantly, kneeling next to her. Charles joined him, taking a shaky breath when he seen the black mark against her skin. Damien followed his gaze and was taken aback to see his mark so infected. Gently, he moved her long blonde hair out of her face.

“You didn’t seal it?”, Charles voice was no longer kind.

“I forgot and she wouldn’t let me afterwards”, Damien whispered. He lifted her on the bed and covered her half naked body with the blanket at the foot of the bed.

“Are you trying to kill her? It’s infected now, you have to seal it and you’ll have to do it continuously now to stop the infection”, he growled at Damien, angry he would put their Lunas life at risk.

“I didn’t realise”

“That’s probably because most marking are consensual”, he spat back.

Damien couldn’t be mad at his beta speaking to him this way. He deserved it and he would deserve much worse if she died, because of him.

He sat on the edge of the bed and steadied himself, bracing his arms on either side of her head. He leaned in and was shocked when her eyes opened and landed on his face.

Damien was prepared for shouting, he wanted her to shout at him, maybe even attack him. instead, her eyes stayed focused and he wondered how much of this she could comprehend.

“What did you do to me”, her voice was barely more than a whisper.

“I have to heal your mark, otherwise it will get worse and kill you”, he held her gaze, hoping she would accept him.

“NO”, her voice broke, but they both understood what she was saying.

“I’m not asking”, he growled at her.

“Surprise”

“You will die”, he was losing patience.

She blanched at the harsh reality of his words, her mouth opened and close, but nothing escaped. He could see her inner turmoil, however all she did was lay and stare at him. He watched as her eyes shifted from dark to light and realised his scent was intoxicating her wolf, she breathed heavily and Damien smiled.

Andrea had slipped by letting her guard down and he watched as her wolf pushed forward, she had been waiting for an opening. Her eyes turned black and he knew her wolf was now in control.

“Hello, where did Andrea go?”, Damien asked, he chuckled as she whined beneath him.

“She was being dramatic”, she purred. She turned her head, exposing her neck to him.

Her chest vibrated as her purring got louder and he felt her small, warm hand travel up his arm before she let it rest on his chest, the heat burning into his skin.

Damien realised too late she was trying to antagonise his wolf into taking control, his wolf had been quiet up until he could feel him pushing forward. Being spurred on by her purring.

We Mate, Vince’s words washed over Damien, but it was too late, his mind clouded and he was pushed to the back of his mind.

His wolf was in control and his words haunted him.

Don’t even think about it! she will hate us, Damien growled at his wolf.

She’s ours.

We have to heal her, He growled back at Vince.

His words registered and he zeroed in on the infected spot on her neck, his wolf growled protectively causing the bed to crack against the concrete. He lowered his mouth to her neck and let his tongue trail over her infected mark. He watched as his saliva took effect immediately, the wound closed, the black marks disappeared and the redness was significantly less. He realised it wouldn’t need to be healed again, he had healed her completely.

Damien’s wolf pulled back and met her steady gaze, only this time her eyes were light and Damien knew she had fought for control back, but his wolf was still very much in control.

“Damien, you’re scaring her”, Charles voice echoed through the room, Vince growled at him but Damien watched Andrea. She was flush against the bed and her eyes never once left his. He realised she wasn’t afraid of him; she was afraid of what his wolf would do.

“Get her out of here”, Damien mind linked his beta.

“Sure, I suppose if I’m going to die it might as well be protecting the Luna”, he huffed and edged closer to the bed. Andrea heard his words and stretched out her hand towards him.

His wolf was too busy sniffing her neck and barely registered when Charles dragged her off the bed in one fluid movement. She crashed into his arms and he steadied her, pulling her towards the room door.

They had barely turned the handle when Charles was thrown across the room. Damien and his wolf barely registered as he crashed through the floor to ceiling mirror, because his only focus was Andrea and right now, she was trying to run from him…again.

His fists slammed the door closed and caged her in on either side. She hesitated a moment before turning to look up into his black eyes.

Mine”, Vince growled low and threatening.

“Yes, I’m yours.”, she nodded slowly, her voice hitched when she added, “Please, bring back the Alpha”

Damien was trying to fight Vince for control, but he was consumed entirely by her presence and his wolf wanted her.

I am the Alpha”, He retorted but she shook her head in disagreement. Damien removed one of his hands from the door and trailed it down her side before encircling her waist with his arm.

“Please, bring Damien back”, she choked out.

Damien was angry with Vince, he had marked her and now was trying to claim her, when he knew the effects, it had last time.

“Let her go, NOW!”, Damien roared at Vince, pushing him back and taking control of the situation.

He let out a much-needed sigh when he felt himself in control of his body again. He closed his eyes, still holding onto her, before he finally whispered out, “I’m sorry”

Damien knew she didn’t want to be mated to him and his actions were solidifying her reasoning every moment he spent with her.

He unwrapped himself from her and exited the room in an instant.

He made his way to his office, only this time he locked the door. Charles had followed him out the room in silence, but he couldn’t face him.

He had spent his life alone, from the age of eighteen. He watched the members of his pack find their mates and be happy, but he remained alone.

Damien believed it was because he was less human that the rest of his kind.

Hours ticked by as he stared at nothing but wall, a car engine starting outside, broke him out of his thoughts.

He stood and watched her from the window. She had finished loading the trunk with her things and popped the roof down. She started the engine eagerly, but before taking off out of the estate she looked back at the house, back at him. Her eyes caught his for a second before she hit the accelerator.

Her gaze held nothing but hate.
