Chapter Seventy: Casual Banter

A laugh almost escapes me, but the bitterness swirling in my chest makes me fear that I might cry instead should I voice my pain. So, my gaze remains on him; I do not dare blink in case tears dare escape me.

It hurts; it shouldn’t hurt to hear these words from him, but Christ, it feels as if my heart has imploded in my chest.

It must be my hormones making me feel this way; it must be otherwise…otherwise…

Christ, it's almost as though I believed him when he said he cared. I didn’t, but it’s almost as if I did.

"Elaine will spend the week…”

Christ, he is still talking about Elaine.

His mouth still calls her name as if…

“…Sunday for school, where she will stay until her official graduation. I won't sleep with her, Ruby. Just trust me."

He continues but, I am not sure what I have missed, I am uncertain of what he has uttered beyond his threats and…I do not want to take in more of what he wants to say in case he takes them back later.

"And..."

A sigh escapes me, I hate its tremble.

You know what, I really was rooting for Ruby and Adrian. I thought they could fix their problems. but now? No Way! Now she needs to escape him and find someone who is worthy of her love.
