Chapter Eighty-Nine: Proud Scars

His words sent a chill down my spine. Could it mean he was scared of losing me? If he was, why?

I had always believed I didn’t mean much to him, given the things he had always told me, and the way he had treated me.

How many times had he made it clear to me that I was just an object to him? Just a wife, a mate, it was all just titles. But now he was scared of losing me?

It felt like I was being played at, but the look on his face proved otherwise.

My head was in turmoil, I was beyond confused. My heart was trying to make me see things in a different light. It kept telling me that Devyn had feelings for me. It kept telling me Devyn cared for me because he was in love with me.

But my mind was telling me it was absurd, calling me delusional, and reminding me of the time he had said was not capable of loving me.
