Chapter Twenty-five

Clarissa

Dacre had let me storm away from me and walk off without another word.

As I lay in bed that night, I kept replaying our discussion, the hot kiss or whatever that was…his offer and everything else I had felt erupt within me in those few minutes.

I knew he had only stood staring at my retreating figure as he walked away from the dimly lit lane and disappeared behind the wall.

Not knowing what else to do, I simply walked up the long flight of stairs, trying to understand if I was a small chess piece, a pawn in an elaborate game of power.

This vulnerable side of his was new to me and I did not know what to do next. Half of my mind had been inclined to think that he was just being a showoff and arrogant man who simply thought too highly of himself but the way his face had scrunched with concern and his past was nothing short of horrifying.

Feeling a bit sad, I walked up the small flight of stairs and went inside my room to find my sister wide awake. I angrily turned off the light
