Chapter 40: Spilling Secret.

Mason.

“We should get to know each other, Mason.”

“Maybe you are right,” I shrugged, happy that he wanted us to do this, “I'm sure there is nothing you don't know about me. Everyone knows about my family.”

He nods, agreeing with me, “Do you hate that?”

The butterflies in my stomach paused at once, instead my stomach churned with angst, resentment and bittersweetness.

No one has ever cared enough to ask me that. Everyone believes it's my life and I should enjoy it. Meanwhile, I hate it so much.

“I don't like it either,” I said instead.

The waiter comes back with a trolley of food, garnished and appetising.

“What about you,” I ask him, picking up my fork to pick some potatoes, “Your family, I mean.”

“I have a sister and my mother,” He smiles, not saying much. He cuts the steaks into edible pieces and passes the plate to Kai who eats them delightedly.

I lean forward to wipe some sauce on the side of his lips, “Eat slowly, Kai.”

He smiles and continues eating.

“Have a taste,” He passed
