Chapter 4

"Come on get out. We need to go shopping," Carson said, annoyed.

"Shopping?" I said, confused.

"Do you have anything other than those stupid dresses? And I think we should get something for your birthday tomorrow."

I gave him a death stare, "fine."

"Are you going to leave the bathroom, or do you want to hold my hand?" I asked him.

He gave me a small growl and left the bathroom.

I walked out of the bathroom in the ripped dress. I saw some clothes on the bed. I walked over and grabbed them. I took the dress off, I didn’t even notice Carson was still in the room. He startled me.

"F*ck why are you still here?" I placed the dress in front of me, covering myself.

He moved closer, "it’s not like I haven’t seen it before." He gave me his devious smile.

"Just wait outside," I said with an eye roll.

A sigh left his lips before he walked out of the room.

The shopping was kind of fun. We went to one of the big towns nearby. The shops we went to were way too expansive for me, but Carson paid for everything. I picked out a beautiful red dress for my birthday tomorrow. Carson told me they had a surprise for me tomorrow. That I should dress for the occasion. Whatever that means.

We were on our way back when Carson decided to get something to eat first. We weren’t going to make it back for dinner at the packhouse. We went to an Italian restaurant next to the highway. It was nothing fancy, but more than I was used to. I had never been out to eat before. We talked about everything. It felt nice to have him as a friend.

"What’s up with Ares?" I asked him.

"He’s difficult."

"And why’s that?"

He let out a sigh, "if you want to know something, you have to ask him. Not me."

"Okay fine, what’s up with you then?" I said with a grin.

"Well played," he said with a laugh.

"I’ve been with Ares my whole life. We grew up together. Fought together. We did everything together."

"Everything," I said with a cocked eyebrow.

He shook his head, "if you must know, yes everything. We both haven’t found our mate yet. We both have had partners. We are not so innocent as you are. But I don’t think he would share a mate."

I felt a blush rising on my cheeks.

"Is that a blush I see," he said with a grin.

I tried to ignore what he said, "it’s just warm in here," I said.

He softly brushed his thumb on my cheek. He startled me. He never touched me like this before.

"Sorry, I shouldn’t have done that," he pinched the bridge of his nose, "maybe we should head back to the packhouse."

"It’s okay, you just caught me by surprise," I said while taking his hand, "and I want dessert." A small smile formed on my lips.

He let out a breath, he seemed to relax again. "Fine, only because it’s you," he said with a wink before calling the waiter to order some dessert.

When we were on our way back, I fell asleep quickly. I could feel myself falling, but I was too tired to open my eyes.

When I started to wake up again. I noticed we weren’t on the highway anymore. I started opening my eyes. I felt a hand running through my hair. I jumped up. "I’m sorry, Carson."

"It’s okay, I didn’t mind," he said with a soft smile.

The driver pulled up in the driveway of the packhouse. When he came to a stop, he opened the door for me. Carson nodded for me to go first. I walked over to the trunk but was stopped when Carson took my hand.

"He will take them upstairs." I nodded in reply and let Carson take me inside.

He walked me over to the stairs, "see you tomorrow, princess," he said before he let go of my hand  and waited for me to walk up the stairs.

I was halfway when I stopped and turned around, "thank you for today, I had fun," I said with a smile.

"Me too," he replied.

When I walked into the bedroom of Ares, he wasn't there. I tried to sense my wolf, but it was again like she wasn’t there. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I noticed that all my stuff was already here. They must have done that when I was shopping.

I walked over to the bed, wondering if I should sleep in the bed or downstairs. Fuck it, I’m not going to sleep in the basement again. I got into bed, it felt like heaven. I dozed off quickly.

I was pulled out of my sleep when I felt the mattress moving, I could feel Ares getting in beside me. He pulled me close. I felt him sniffing me again. A small growl left his lips. He jumped out of bed and left the room. I jumped up and quickly followed him. I couldn’t keep up with him, but I had a feeling where he would go.

He ripped the bedroom door of Carson open. I heard a loud growl, when I followed him into the room, he had Carson pinned to the wall. His hand on Carson’s neck, tightly. I could see his claws piercing Carson’s skin.

"STOP," I screamed. I started pulling on Ares's arm.

Carson tried to say something but couldn’t. I felt my wolf pressing forward. A growl left my lips. I never knew I had. Ares loosened his grip on Carson’s neck. Carson fell to the ground with a thud. Ares turned around quickly, wanting to walk out.

I jumped before him, "no you can't just do that and then walk out."

He tried to walk past me, but I gave him a shove. He didn’t move an inch, it was like trying shoving a brick wall.

"I don’t know what you think, but nothing happened. I fell asleep in the car, with my head on his lap. Yes, I know that sounds off. But nothing happened. And you can't be like this. I’m not yours," I yelled at him.

I saw Carson getting up on his feet. His wounds had already healed.

"That’s it Ares. I know she’s yours," Carson said with a hurt voice.

"I’m not his," I said annoyed, "I’m nobody’s."

"You’re not helping right now," My wolf, Rhys, said.

"Ow now you say something," I replied to her, annoyed.

"It’s not like you never shared anything before," I said to Ares while crossing my arms over each other.

I saw Carson shaking his head, "not helping," I could hear him mumble.

"I don’t share," Ares said with a growl.

"So, you’re saying you never shared before," I cocked my eyebrow at him

"That’s not the same," Ares said with a low growl.

"Sure it is, but I’m not anybody’s. You can't do this. He is your best friend," I said with a sigh.

"F*ck this, I’m going back to bed." I turned around and made my way back to Ares’s bedroom. I don’t need this drama. Nothing happened, nobody owns me.

I got back into bed, hoping I could quickly fall asleep. But I couldn’t, I was waiting for Ares to get back. I was getting restless. Why is he taking so long? When he finally walked in and got back into bed, I tried to fake sleep.

"I know your still awake," he said.

"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked him.

"No, you were right," he said with a sigh.

"Did you apologize?"

"Don’t push it."

A small laugh left my lips.

"If you want to be my boyfriend you should just ask," I said, teasingly.

"Boyfriend?" he said with a laugh.

"Ow sorry I forgot, you are too old for that."

A small growl left his lips, "why do you always want to get on my nerves?"

"I don’t know, you are just easy to tease." I moved in closer, placing my head on his chest.

I felt him sniffing again, "you smell like Carson," he said.

"And why is that bad again?" I asked.

"I don’t want to share, not with you." I could hear he meant it.

"But you don’t own me," I replied.

"Not yet," he said while pulling me closer.
