I hope you liked this chapter. I would love to read your comments.
Two weeks after I got out of the hospital, Joshua took me back to see Doctor Simmons. We were immediately escorted to x-ray and I noticed that my ribs felt better as I laid on the hard table. After that was done, Connie led us to an exam room. As she asked me the required questions and took my vitals, she asked, “How are you feeling?” I shrugged, “I seem to feel better. I’m not nearly as sore as I was when I discharged from the hospital.” She smiled, “That’s great news.” I grinned, “I met a really sweet little girl the day I got out of the hospital.” She blushed, “Yeah, Nyx told me all about it. I’m sorry she bothered you.” I corrected, “Seriously, it was no bother. I would like it if she could come by and see me once in a while. I have some projects I’m thinking of that she could seriously help me with.” She asked, “What do you mean?” I shrugged, “Just some ideas to better the pack.” She nodded thoughtfully, “I will let her know. I think she would like to help with that.” I chuckled,
That entire afternoon was spent getting dinner ready and then getting myself ready. While I was waiting for the dinner rolls to rise, I made a quick batch of blackberry muffins for our after dinner discussions. As soon as the dinner rolls were done, Josh started helping me put food on the table. I put the blackberry cobbler in the oven. I got a large platter out of the cabinet and took my drunken watermelon out of the spare refrigerator. As I was about to slice the watermelon, all of our guests arrived at the same time. Honi made her presence known right away, “Where’s my daughter-in-law?” Jessie spread her arms wide, “I’m right beside you.” She laughed, “I mean my other daughter-in-law.” I laughed, “I’m in the kitchen, about to cut up this watermelon.” Honi ran into the kitchen at full speed and I could have sworn I heard her feet burn rubber as she rounded the kitchen island to join me at the sink. I laughed so hard I nearly dropped my watermelon knife. Honi laughed, “My goddess, la
I furrowed my brow in confusion and asked, “Is he really thinking of trying to start a war with twenty warriors?” Alpha Conner shrugged, “Well, he’s trying. He has been trying to ally with all of the surrounding packs, but I may or may not have spread the word about what that pack did to you. No one wants to ally with a pack that will enslave a five-year-old child.” Then he smiled at me, “You also have quite the fan club. When I told them who the slave was, it raised their anger even more.” I smiled, “I guess it pays to be a good cook.” Alpha Conner chuckled, “Sweetie, you’re cooking is better than just good. It is way better than average. You could easily start a restaurant and never have to worry about business being slow. All of the surrounding pack Alphas know your cooking. So do their Lunas. None of us will ever let anything happen to you. If he is going to recruit more warriors, it will have to be rogues. I know you are his main target, but he won’t mind killing your mate if it
I woke up the next morning before dawn, as usual. I took a shower, got dressed and walked to the kitchen. I poured a cup of coffee and started making biscuit dough. Once I had them all on the sheet pan to let the dough rest, I started cooking the bacon and sausage. When the sausage was done, I put the biscuits in the oven and started making milk gravy. When that was done, I put the sausage back in the gravy. I checked on the biscuits and they were done. As soon as I pulled the biscuits out of the oven, my mate walked into the kitchen and there was a knock on the door. I smiled as I wiped my hands, “Sounds like Alpha Lucien is here. You get your coffee. I’ll get the door.” He yawned, “Thank you, love.” I opened the door to find Honi and Alpha Lucien. I laughed, “Well, hello! Come on in. I, literally, just pulled the biscuits out of the oven.” They walked in and Honi smiled, “I hope you don’t mind me inviting myself. I just really wanted to learn how to do that too.” I laughed, “You are
I went back to my office, working on a project that I had been thinking of for a while. Something for the older children in our pack. I noticed that there are a lot of teenagers who are parkour addicts. I was thinking that we could build a parkour park with an obstacle course. I had noticed that Nyx had developed an affinity for parkour, so I wanted to speak with her to get an idea of what would be a challenge for them. I started sketching out ideas for it when Luna Jessie walked in. I sat my sketches aside and she asked, “What are you thinking about. You looked so serious.” I smiled, “I have noticed that the teenagers in town have developed an affinity for parkour. I was thinking about building a parkour park with an obstacle course. I was going to try to get Nyx’s opinion on it. I was just trying to sketch out some of it.” She smiled, “That’s a really good idea. We need to do something for the teenagers. They seem to be the biggest troublemakers when they are bored.” I nodded, “That
One week later, my design was complete and the trenches had already been dug. The tires are being shredded into trucks right now, while the bases for the obstacle course are being built. The climbing towers are being built and Jenny has been coming to my office daily to check on the progress. Once building had actually started, she had been going to the site and coming back to inform me how it was going. I had to laugh at how the roles had reversed so suddenly. All the kids who helped me design the course are expressing their excitement non-stop. I was happy to see them so excited. I noticed that even the kids who are usually troublemakers are starting to fly right in order to be granted permission to use it. I have already installed a huge sign at the entrance with the rules. The very first rule is that troublemakers are not allowed. This is a non-violent course. If you have a beef with someone on the course, come back later. I had to admit, lately I had been feeling like I needed a
While we were in my office, I called Alpha Lucien and put it on speaker. He answered on the first ring, “Good afternoon, Co-Beta Isabel.” I chuckled, “Hi, Alpha Lucien. I have you on speaker with Alpha Matthew, Luna Jessie, and Beta Joshua. I am wondering if we can talk about my old pack.” Alpha Lucien laughed, “Of course! Are you ready for me to call in that debt?” I responded, “Yeah. We’ve been having too many rogue attacks. We haven’t had any casualties, but it’s rough on the young children. I’m ready to stop the madness.” He laughed, “I understand. I will go over there and tell the dipshit that I want the money or the pack. I’m sure he doesn’t have the money because he’s still gambling.” I smiled, “Good. I will start talking to the guys to get my Co-Alpha chosen and my Gamma. I may have to plan on taking volunteers from our omegas here to stay and train the omegas there. It’s very apparent they need some training.” Alpha Lucien laughed, “Yeah, you’re right. Okay. Let’s set a meetin
I asked Alpha Lucien, “What happened?” He replied, “He tried to kill a few pack members on his way out.” I shook my head as my mate and Alpha Matthew walked in. I announced, “Alpha Lucien, Alpha Matthew and Beta Joshua just walked in. Would you mind catching them up on our conversation?” He greeted them, then told them everything he and I had discussed. Matthew suggested, “Would thirty warriors be enough?” Alpha Lucien agreed, “That should be enough to go with the fifteen here. I can add twenty Lycan warriors to what you will be adding.” I smiled, “You have no idea how much I appreciate your help. Both of you.” Alpha Lucien responded, “We are just righting a wrong that was done to your family. Your original pack will come back when they sense that you have taken it back.” I smiled, “I hope so.” We continued the planning for just a short time longer, then ended the call. When I ended the call, I sighed, “I need a good exterminator and fumigator. Then I need to make arrangements to stay
