chapter seven

Danielle

My steps quickens as I enter the hospital. Unlike before, it isn't rowdy but quiet this time, perhaps there's no emergency.

I stroll into Carlos ward, I couldn't help the tears that envelop me the minute I lay eyes on him.

Dragging my feets further, I crouch to his level staring at his face. He is sleeping so calmly, he looks better than yesterday.

I snivel and lay my head on his chest, praying for his safety.

The door opens and a nurse enters. On her left hand lies a table file, and a syringe on the other hand.

“Good morning, nurse.” I manage a greeting.

“You're here, Miss Danielle.” She mumbles and shrinks the injection.

My eyes guard her every move and as she proceeds to inject him with it I ask, “what is that for?”

Taking one glance at me, she replies, “it's to keep him asleep so he doesn't interrupt the surgery.”

I nod, chewing on my lips.

As I watch her inject him her words registered in my brain. “Surgery.” I say, muttering the word like it's news to me.
