Chapter 23

The day had been long and stressful. The news about Fiona’s death affected Charles’ frame of mind.

Upon his return from the morgue, he dashed off into his room and jumped right into the shower without taking off his clothes. He stood under the running water and kept looking down as the water flowed over his body.

Soaked, he stepped out of the shower and took off his shoes. Then he slowly lifted his left leg into the Jacuzzi followed by the right leg. For an hour he sat in the Jacuzzi with his clothes on and rested his head on the edge of the Jacuzzi as he gazed and gazed continually into the mirror ceiling.

He tossed his head to the left and the right and then finally kept a glance at himself in the mirror on the ceiling.

It was at this point that it dawned on him that he was still in his clothes. He reached for the first button at the top of his shirt, then went for the second, and the third and continued till he unbuttoned his shirt while in the Jacuzzi.
