Chapter Two

I've been working here for over two weeks now, I moved up to Mr. Mavericks floor yesterday and the tension has been suffocating.

It's late at night when I finish working on the files Mr. Maverick assigned to me. "Mr. Maverick, here are the files you needed." I hastily turn to leave.

"Hannah, wait please." I don't turn, I just stand there waiting.

"What I did to you was and is unforgivable, I have no excuse, you have every right to hate me, but I am so sorry, I didn't mean for anything to go that far." I chuckle lightly.

"Well it did, didn't it?" I finally turn, pinning him with eye contact.

"It went so much far than you could have ever imagined." I tell him quietly. "You just want to clear up whatever guilt you're feeling isn't it? Your stupid childish entertainments ruined my life." I tell him before walking away.

The next morning at work, I didn't feel too good, my medication was finished, and I didn't have enough money to get some more from the hospital.

"Hannah, come with me, we are going for a meeting." Mr. Maverick calls while walking past my desk.

We get situated in a restaurant, we meet two older men there and wait for the last business associate.

"What's up man, it's been a long time." a voice says but I'm too busy on my phone to look up.

"Hey jeremy, how come you are here in place of your father." I hear Mr. Maverick say nervously.

I tense, let it not be him, let it not be him. I look up and bile rises up in my throat, my hands tremble but I am glued to my sit.

"Dad got caught up with something else, so I'm here in his place." he says sitting.

For a half of the meeting, he keeps eyeing me and I torture my ownself by sitting at this table when I really want to run away like I always do my.

"Who's the chick Luca, you didn't introduce her." Jeremy suddenly interrupts and I feel Luca tense beside me.

"This is uh- Hannah, my personal assistant." he sits up straight. "Hannah? As in Hannah fucking Evans? I knew she looked familiar." He points out excitedly.

"Jerem-"

"Mannn, how did you pull this one off." he exclaims chuckling. "Jeremy, now is not the time." Luca states darkly.

"okay, okay, just chill out, I was just asking." still chuckling, he raises his hand in a surrender.

"excuse me." I murmur, getting out to use the bathroom. I look in the mirror and try to control whatever panic I can feel rising. I'm sure Luca can do without his assistant for the rest of the meeting.

"So this is where you are are hiding." I jump at the sudden male's voice in the women's bathroom. my voice is stuck in my throat.

"Oh I was just passing by and decided to check if you were still here." he tries to explain like him being here still makes any sense.

He eyes me and down. "I remember the last time I saw you." he ticks.

"you look so much hotter. God, you are still so beautiful." he says moving closer to me and flipping my hair.

"Shut up." I weakly tell him, frozen in place.

"Aww, C'mon baby, I missed you." at the sound of that, I suddenly get filled with rage, hot, boiling rage.

I smack his face, hard before he can react, I find a bottle in the waste bin next to us, I pick it and I smash it against his head, hard. He falls to the ground hold his head and groaning painfully.

"you bitch."

"what did you just call me you fucking prick?" I yell at him. "How do you like being the helpless one on the fucking floor huh." I kick his legs before fleeing the room.

I meet Luca already rounding off the meeting.

"Are you okay? you were gone long." I nod as a reply to him. "you see Jeremy around?"

"I think I saw him heading out." "ohh okay, let's go.

"Why did you look so frightened of him? Jeremy never hit you in high school."

"How do you know?" I ask instead of asking why the fuck he would assume I was frightened. "I I-I never saw him." He stutters. I glare hard at him.

"He did so much worse than hit me." I don't know why I give him that information but I do.

"What did he do?" He tightly clenches his steering wheel. I don't answer, I just lay my head back and close my eyes, too emotionally tired to keep them open.

"Hanny, come on, don't act so scared, we just want to play." I hear Jeremy tell me. "Yes Hanny, I'm sure you will like it." another voice says.

"No, no, let me go, stop it, stop it." "Hannah!!! Hannah!!!"

"No, don't touch me, let me go."

"Hannah! Wake up!!" My eyes jerk open in shock to meet bright frightened blue ones, staring back at me. I look around and he's hovering over me on my car seat.

"Oh Hannah, are you okay?" He asks carefully.

"Can you please get off of me?" I manage to say it without my voice shaking.

"Oh, I'm sorry." The moment he's off me, I jump out of the car like the seat is on fire.

Mr. Maverick rushes behind me into the company. "Hannah please, just tell me what Jeremy did to you." He pleads, coming closer and holding my chin.

"D-did he touch you?" I recoil from his touch.

"No!" I get defensive, lying through my teeth. He looks relieved. "Hannah, your nose is bleeding." I touch my nose, feeling lightheaded. "I'm fine." I say quickly, packing to leave.

I try to get away, but I don't get too far before the world turns black and I pass out. I wake up in a different room, it doesn't look like a hospital and I'm confused.

One of the oak doors in the room opens and Mr. Maverick walks in. "You're awake." He says cautiously coming closer.

"Obviously." I answer irritably, trying to sit up. He looks like he's still not used to my new tone, with his position, I bet nobody ever speaks to him rudely.

He comes to help me sit and I clap his hand away.

"I told you not to fucking touch me, you ass halt." I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, he better not poke me.

"Why didn't you say anything?" This man manages to change my moods in seconds. My heart rate spirals at the question.

"What do you mean?" I try to act casual. Does he know?

"You could have at least mentioned it on your appointment form." "Mention what Sir?" I ask through gritted teeth beginning to get annoyed.

"I brought you home to my personal doctor instead of the hospital to make sure you were okay and comfortable." My heart grows heavy.

"why, thank you." I comment and he ignores it.

"He suspected that the nose bleeding and passing out must have been something that happened frequently, like maybe an ailment or stress, since he couldn't do a scan here. We can go for a full check up now you are awake."

"No, I'm fine, it's just stress." The amount of relief I feel right now cannot be measured.

"I'm leaving." The moment I stand, I almost fall back in bed but thankfully or unfortunately Mr. Maverick steadies me.

"Can you stay for breakfast at least?" I look at him weirdly. "I have to go to work."

"You work for me and as your boss, I'm asking you to stay for breakfast." He says sternly and I glare at him, not liking his command a tiny bit.

He leads me to the dining, after I shower and get dressed. I see a woman seated and eating breakfast already and when she turns, I pause in my steps.

"Hannah?"
