My legs trembled as I stepped through the fields towards our house, with the newly signed copy of the surrogacy contract in my hands. It all felt so surreal. I was just returning from the meeting with Mr. Darnell’s lawyer, and he had fully explained to me all I needed to know about being a surrogate for a demanding man like Mr. Darnell.

There were so many strict rules.

Everything was regulated. Mr. Darnell was hiring me a nutritionist, a chiropractor, masseuse, a pregnancy exercise trainer to keep me fit during pregnancy, a beautician -because he wanted his surrogate to look good always and a ton of other staff members that would be attending to me and only me.
